Grex Coop Conference

Item 41: Proposal

Entered by maus on Mon Aug 13 05:20:02 2007:

I propose that the board allocate funds to buy user cross (Dan Cross)
some chocolates or a credit with O'Reilley's online bookstore
(http://www.oreilly.com/store/) for getting our upgrade done in record
time and for general service to our community and our server.
37 responses total.

Haha, thanks, Maus, I appreciate the sentiment, but it's really not needed.
 :-)

We could consider sending him a silly hat.

#4 of 37 by mcnally on Mon Aug 13 07:24:00 2007:

Well, it's just that we have a fund for silly hats..

#5 of 37 by cmcgee on Mon Aug 13 12:17:03 2007:

Manthoms, Dan deserves a manthom.

Vivek, if you make a donation to Grex via Paypal, and ask to keep it
anonymous, our treasurer will do so. The only person who will know the
name on the Paypal account will be aruba (Mark Conger), the treasurer.

And yes, Grex has had a silly hat fund for decades. Someone decided to
make a donation to the silly hat fund, and voila! aruba can give
further details.

I think a silly hat would be a great idea.

#8 of 37 by denise on Mon Aug 13 13:45:26 2007:

I do, too. After all, since we do have the silly fund [as Mike already
pointed out], we should USE it as the need comes up. Isn't that what
its for? :-) And whether or not Dan says its not necessary, he DOES
deserve one, IMHO.

#9 of 37 by cmcgee on Mon Aug 13 14:25:18 2007:

OTOH, Dan has a lot of silly hats already. Those Marine things, ya
know.

Perhaps chocolate would be better.

#10 of 37 by cross on Mon Aug 13 16:56:10 2007:

Haha, you guys are all too kind, but really, I Colleen is right that I don't
need any more silly hats. That grex is up and running is reward enough, and
besides, there's still plenty of work to be done.

Re #5, first paragraph: Mathom (the program) was among the programs not ported
to OpenBSD, I understand.

#12 of 37 by denise on Tue Aug 14 00:59:57 2007:

I agree with the chocolate. And just because Dan doesn't NEED the
chocolate, its always enjoyable to have, IMHO. [Anytime anyone wants
to get ME some chocolate, I will not refuse it.] As someone I knew
down south used to say: "Chocolate is my friend." And I agree... :-)
She'd say the same thing about food being her friend, too.

#13 of 37 by twenex on Tue Aug 14 09:41:45 2007:

Supposedly chocolate is better than sex. No, but it probably is the next best
thing.

#14 of 37 by cyklone on Tue Aug 14 12:52:44 2007:

Not even close.

#15 of 37 by cmcgee on Tue Aug 14 13:14:34 2007:

I got a birthday card once that said "You're worth your weight in gold".

Inside it said, Actually, you're worth your weight in chocolate.

Perhaps we should purchase Dan's weight in chocolate and give it to him.
Using Dr. Chocolate's best chocolate of course.

[See the chocolate item in the Kitchen conference if you don't
understand].

#16 of 37 by cross on Tue Aug 14 14:56:00 2007:

The mind boggles at what one would do with 185 pounds of chocolate.... :-)

#17 of 37 by twenex on Tue Aug 14 15:21:09 2007:

Not to mention 185 pounds of sex...

#18 of 37 by cross on Tue Aug 14 16:52:17 2007:

How does one measure sex in pounds?

#19 of 37 by twenex on Tue Aug 14 16:55:31 2007:

How indeed.

 re #18:

 Ask a British prostitute.

#22 of 37 by nharmon on Tue Aug 14 17:49:46 2007:

Haha. Nice.

re #18
> How does one measure sex in pounds?
I guess you could use a pedometer? 8D

#25 of 37 by denise on Wed Aug 15 13:16:19 2007:

"How does one measure sex in pounds?"

In some instances, you can wait 9 months and then measure...

#26 of 37 by davel on Wed Aug 15 14:08:10 2007:

They probably only take euros now.

#27 of 37 by twenex on Wed Aug 15 16:04:29 2007:

Erm, not in the UK, Dave.

#28 of 37 by tod on Wed Aug 15 20:00:16 2007:

re #26
In Romania, you can ask for lay (lei)

#29 of 37 by denise on Wed Aug 15 23:28:40 2007:

Wouldn't asking for 'a lay' with/from someone possibly create another
living being around nine months down the road?

#30 of 37 by mcnally on Wed Aug 15 23:59:06 2007:

Of course if you're doing some sort of swap with a Romanian and you're
only getting one lei per pound you're not getting a good deal at all..

#31 of 37 by scholar on Thu Aug 16 04:07:22 2007:

This item is hideous.

#32 of 37 by tod on Mon Aug 20 21:44:02 2007:

I agree. Sending cross chocolate turns my stomach.

#33 of 37 by cross on Tue Aug 21 01:08:35 2007:

Why?

#34 of 37 by mcnally on Tue Aug 21 01:10:40 2007:

Well, after the ticker-tape parades and the declaration of January 1st
as "International Dan Cross Day", it just seems a little much, don't you
 think?

#35 of 37 by cross on Tue Aug 21 01:27:11 2007:

A little much? No of course not. :-)

Okay, sure, but I think I'd be the one who got sick if 185 pounds of chocolate
showed up in the mail for me, not Todd.

#36 of 37 by tod on Tue Aug 21 17:34:29 2007:

Sorry, I just don't have a sweet tooth. I'd rather send some bootcamp after
shave to Dan. ;)

A Col. and a LCpl are sitting in the barber shop both getting a haircut. The
Barber finishes the Col's hair and asks if the Col would like some after shave
lotion. The Col replies "HELL NO, If I came home smelling like that my wife
will think I've been hanging out in a French Whorehouse". The second Barber
asks the LCpl if he'd like any aftershave lotion. The LCpl replies "Yes
please, MY WIFE doesn't know what a French Whorehouse smells like"
