Grex Coop Conference

Item 354: Nominations Open for 2015 Grex Board

Entered by kentn on Sun Nov 23 23:31:28 2014:

Nominations are now open for the Cyberspace Communications, Inc. Board
of Directors. Nominations will close December 8. An online election
will be held December 15 through December 30. Terms of office begin on
January 1, 2015, and are two years in length.

This election is for ONE SEAT. TS Taylor's (tsty) seat is open.

Grex membership is a requirement for serving on the Board. Any current
member of Grex who has paid at least 3 months' membership dues and
meets state of Michigan eligibility requirements may run for and serve
on the Board. If you are not a current member, you cannot be a certified
candidate in the election, so please be aware of this requirement.

To be valid, a nomination must be accepted in this item by the nominee,
but the nomination does not need a second. Self-nominations are
allowed and will be interpreted as also accepting the nomination.
Nominations must be accepted by 1700 EDT, December 14, 2014, to allow
time to confirm the list of nominees before opening the polls at
 midnight.

While anyone may cast a ballot, only the ballots of members will
be counted for the election. The voteadm will probably count the
non-members' votes and report their results as well.

If haven't updated your membership in a long time, please do so before
the start of voting, so your vote will count! $6 (3 months membership)
will get you a voting membership if you do it right before the election
starts. Memberships are $18/year or $2 per month.

See: https://grex.org/member.xhtml PayPal links are provided and
you can choose to pay in $18 increments or $2 increments. Or you
can pay by check, but beware that it needs to reach the treasurer
 prior to the election.

I nominate Chuck Martin (unicorn), Denise Anderson (denise), and Steve
Andre (steve).

#2 of 24 by denise on Thu Dec 4 01:58:59 2014:

Thanks for the nomination, Kent. However, right now I will need to pass
due to a number of different ongoing health issues. Once I finally get
well in one area, something else happens or several concurrently. This
has been an extra stressful 18 months and I am just wiped out.

If there are things I can do every now and then when I'm healthy, I'll
be happy to help out but I don't want to actually be on the board or to
step in as treasurer until I'm on more solid footing.

Thanks for considering it, Denise. I hope you are well soon.

#4 of 24 by kentn on Fri Dec 5 21:22:06 2014:

Any more nominations? Nominating period ends Dec. 8. Please consider
running or nominated something you think would be good for the Board.

s/nominated something/nominate someone/ in resp. 4

We're running out of time, so I hope someone will step up
and either accept a nomination or nominate someone.

I nominate slynne, cmcgee, remmers and mary.

Nominations are now closed. There is still time to accept a nomination
in this item (1700 EST Dec. 14 is the cutoff for accepting a
nomination).

#8 of 24 by unicorn on Thu Dec 11 15:09:32 2014:

Okay, I'll accept the nomination. I was debating whether to do this or
not, especially since I haven't been very active here in a long time,
and considering my Internet access is very limited at the moment and my
finances are limited as well, but as long as I can call in for board
meetings, I should be able to do it. I just paid for a year membership,
since I haven't been a member since I was on the board before, and I
couldn't really accept the nomination without it. Am I in time for that,
since the voting hasn't started yet?

I didn't want to accept the nomination unless I was sure I could make
the meetings. I don't like to make commitments, and then not take them
seriously, and I really should support grex more, anyway. Due to my
limited Internet access, any meeting attendance that requires streaming
video for an extended period of time is out, so I'll need to attend by
phone. Just let me know how to do that.

That's fine; we can totally conference you in by phone if that's easier.

#10 of 24 by kentn on Thu Dec 11 19:34:48 2014:

You are in time. The deadline for nominations was Dec 8, but the deadline
for acceptance of a nomination is Dec 14.

Thanks for accepting. Phoning in is fine. The video part isn't all that
necessary.

Re #2: I hope that your health improves over the next year.

With but one candidate, voting will be pro forma. Still, we will hold a
vote. I can set the beginning and ending times, but the introductory
text will have to wait until the candidate list is complete. The
sooner, the better, from my point of view. ;)

#13 of 24 by kentn on Sun Dec 14 22:16:10 2014:

Okay, 1700 EST has come and gone on Dec. 14, 2014, so the opportunity
to accept a nomination has elapsed.

I see we have one user who has accepted their nomination prior to this
deadline, Chuck Martin (unicorn). I have seen his membership payment
come through the PayPal account for another year of membership, so I can
certify that he is a valid member for purposes of this election.

The polls will open one minute into the new day and close one minute before
the end of the penultimate day of the month. So you may vote between 00:01
15 December 2014 and 23:59 30 December 2014, Eastern Standard Time.

And may the best candidate win.

#15 of 24 by cross on Mon Dec 15 04:18:10 2014:

"And may the odds be ever in your favor!"

#16 of 24 by gelinas on Mon Dec 15 11:47:39 2014:

I thought of putting that in, too, Dan. ;)

The voting booth is open, but it's not yet available from the home page.

#17 of 24 by kentn on Mon Dec 15 13:52:19 2014:

I've got the links working on our home page. I also added
the link to the motd and in the announcements item in agora.
The links we used previously didn't work, but I'm using
https://grex.org/cgi-bin/pw/voting-booth and that drops you into the
booth okay (directly). You just don't get the page before that with the
choice of election.

#18 of 24 by cross on Mon Dec 15 15:24:26 2014:

Since there is only one candidate, I really don't feel bad about saying that
I just voted for Chuck. So he's won just based on that, if nothing else.

#19 of 24 by unicorn on Wed Dec 17 09:04:49 2014:

It would be kind of sad if I couldn't get even a single vote, being the
only candidate. :)

#20 of 24 by kentn on Wed Dec 17 16:05:32 2014:

You'll get at least 2, I'm sure, maybe 3 or more!

#21 of 24 by denise on Fri Dec 19 16:30:48 2014:

It looks like at least 3 votes! :-)

#22 of 24 by gelinas on Sun Jan 4 01:24:59 2015:

Nine people voted in the most recent election, which ended on December 30,
2014. Nine of those people voted for unicorn. So if any of the nine were
members, then unicorn has been elected to a two-year term as a Director of
Cyberspace Communications, Incorporated.

I am still waiting for an official list of the voters, to certify the
election. However, I did recognise a few of the names as being members, so
the certification is just a formality.

Congratulations, unicorn.

#23 of 24 by unicorn on Fri Jan 9 08:52:07 2015:

Thanks.

#24 of 24 by kentn on Fri Jan 9 14:42:46 2015:

Thank you for being willing to serve on the Board, Chuck! Will you let
Dan know the e-mail address you want to use for the Board e-mail group?
That way we can use one group list for the whole Board. We've been
trying to meet bi-monthly in the past year and were pretty successful at
it. We'll need to have a meeting this month, to seat new members and
elect officers for the year, so expect an invite to that soon.
