I never heard back from the rest of the Board and our vote admin
prefers to have both of these seats in the special election.

#2 of 51 by kentn on Tue Dec 3 17:02:37 2013:

Note the user tod has been nominated in item 343 and has accepted,
so that nomination will be counted in this item as accepted.

I nominate bellstar. I don't want walkman running unopposed.
Any other volunteers?

#8 of 51 by tod on Thu Dec 5 15:14:25 2013:

re #7
I don't want walkman running unopposed.

Walkman is much more capable than I am of helping out Cyberspace.

#9 of 51 by denise on Thu Dec 5 21:58:24 2013:

Sindi, how about you running for the board?

And thanks to Tod and Walkman for agreeing to run.

#10 of 51 by ball on Fri Dec 6 01:10:03 2013:

Though I realise he may be too busy to accept, I would like to nominate
cross.

#11 of 51 by cross on Fri Dec 6 02:52:34 2013:

I'll accept.

#12 of 51 by kentn on Fri Dec 6 02:56:22 2013:

Thanks, Dan!

#13 of 51 by keesan on Sun Dec 8 15:54:25 2013:

Thanks, cross. This item does not show up as new with 'r n'.

to this item then nominees who have accepted are:

tod, walkman, and cross.

As noted in the item text, the election itself will begin
Jan 3, 2014 and run for two weeks. There are 2 open Board
seats.

If you put a file called "statement" in your home directory,
it will be presented by the voting software. Voting
officially begins Jan 3. and runs for 2 weeks, through Jan
17.

Thank you all for being willing to help Grex!

#15 of 51 by tod on Sat Jan 11 03:27:23 2014:

Can we start voting?

#16 of 51 by kentn on Sat Jan 11 03:46:20 2014:

The vote admin needs to set up the voting software first.
Unfortunately, the system died about the time he would
have been thinking about doing that. It will take a
day or two for the setup to occur, I assume. We may
want to extend the voting period, too, as people find
their way back here (assuming they do).

#17 of 51 by gelinas on Sun Jan 12 01:42:35 2014:

I plan to set up the voting booth tomorrow. As things sit right now, I'm
inclined to run the vote for two weeks beginning next Sunday, January 19, at
0001.

#18 of 51 by kentn on Sun Jan 12 02:01:32 2014:

Thanks, gelinas!

#19 of 51 by tod on Sun Jan 12 03:57:08 2014:

Sounds groovy

#20 of 51 by lar on Sun Jan 12 17:34:09 2014:

Since the precise voting date deadline was not met I demand that
nominations be extended so that "I" lar can nominate myself as the FW of
 the twinkie.cf

Oh wait wrong box.

I,lar,hereby offcially nominate myself!

#21 of 51 by kentn on Sun Jan 12 19:12:43 2014:

Nomination are closed as of Dec. 20. An unplanned delay in the voting
should not affect the nomination period. Sorry.

#22 of 51 by kentn on Sun Jan 19 14:05:43 2014:

The polls will open at one minute after midnight January 19, 2014.
They will close one minute before midnight on 1 February.

#23 of 51 by kentn on Sun Jan 19 14:07:52 2014:

Note that is 1 minute after midnight on the night of Jan. 18-19.
So the polls will be open on Jan 19.

#24 of 51 by gelinas on Tue Feb 25 02:07:16 2014:

I've now received the list of members eligible to vote in this special
election. All of the candidates appear on that list, so all were, and are,
eligible of election.

Five members voted. Four of them voted for tod, two voted for walkman, and
three voted for cross. So tod and cross have been elected to serve two year
terms, which started on January 1, 2014.

We still have one seat open.

#25 of 51 by kentn on Tue Feb 25 04:02:13 2014:

Congratulations to tod and cross. Thank you, walkman, for running and
making a race of it.

A special election will need to be organized. Thank you, gelinas, for
running the elections and counting the votes.

#26 of 51 by tod on Thu Feb 27 22:52:14 2014:

Thanks for the results, Joe.

One seat open and walkman didn't get elected? Seems like easy math.

#27 of 51 by cross on Fri Feb 28 17:22:40 2014:

Yeah, I'm kind of confused by that...

#28 of 51 by keesan on Sun Mar 2 20:36:17 2014:

Does someone need a minimum number of votes to be elected?
(Not counting their own vote).

#29 of 51 by gelinas on Sun Mar 16 03:39:47 2014:

Sindi, no minimum number of votes is required.

If we had had accurate information at the start of the regular election,
glitch would not have been a candidate. The special election would then have
had more openings. We can't know what might have happened with an additional
opening: there might have been more candidates.

#30 of 51 by walkman on Sun Mar 16 21:24:00 2014:

I'm still in the dark as to why I'm not in the open seat.

Please help me understand why 3 people ran, two were elected and there's
 an open seat.

#31 of 51 by cross on Mon Mar 17 13:16:26 2014:

I don't get that either.

#32 of 51 by kentn on Mon Mar 17 15:30:03 2014:

2 different elections at two different times would be my guess. And
the by-laws do not say to move candidates into positions like you are
suggesting. This one is up to the vote administrator to decide upon.

#33 of 51 by walkman on Mon Mar 17 18:47:33 2014:

Well, if someone nominates me for that seat, I'll accept it.

#34 of 51 by nharmon on Mon Mar 17 19:44:50 2014:

I nominate walkman.

#35 of 51 by walkman on Mon Mar 17 20:59:03 2014:

Thanks Nathan!

#36 of 51 by kentn on Mon Mar 17 22:19:07 2014:

We need another nominations item for another special election. I
was waiting to hear what our vote admin. had to say about this
situation before setting up another item.

#37 of 51 by gelinas on Tue Mar 18 02:24:15 2014:

My feeling is that there should be another election. If it turns out that
there is only one nominee, and that nominee is a member, the actual voting
may not be necessary. Of course, we voted in the regular election, when there
were fewer nominees than seats. It is *possible* that even the one nominee
would not get a vote. Unlikely, of course, but possible.

I leave it to Kent to start the item for nominations, simply because I'm too
lazy. ;)

#38 of 51 by cross on Tue Mar 18 18:35:13 2014:

So...who is ACTUALLY on the board right now?

#39 of 51 by kentn on Tue Mar 18 20:21:34 2014:

As you can tell by reading the recent election nomination items: TS
is already on the board with a little less than a year to go, kentn,
cross, and tod were elected to new two year terms. And one seat is
still open.

#40 of 51 by kentn on Tue Mar 18 20:43:42 2014:

I'll try to get an item for the second special election going as soon as
I can. We need to define a nomination period and a voting period. Those
will be of a similar length and relative timing as for the regular
Board election, per bylaws. Don't be surprised that whole process runs
into April. After that, getting the results will depend on when the
treasurer provides the list of valid voters.

#41 of 51 by keesan on Wed Mar 19 06:51:17 2014:

Can we also vote on a minimum number of votes needed to elect someone?

#42 of 51 by kentn on Wed Mar 19 13:06:34 2014:

Not according to the by-laws. If no one gets the minimum number,
whatever it is, we'd have to re-do the election. The better answer
is for people to get involved, get their memberships up to date and
vote in elections.

#43 of 51 by keesan on Wed Mar 19 14:07:55 2014:

I thought anyone who ever paid dues was eligible to vote. How many active
once-paid members are there?

#44 of 51 by walkman on Wed Mar 19 14:54:11 2014:

It's undemocratic to determine how many voices are enough be heard.

#45 of 51 by kentn on Wed Mar 19 15:31:16 2014:

Re 43: ask our treasurer.

#46 of 51 by rcurl on Wed Mar 19 17:10:41 2014:

I haven't been asked for dues for more than a year, I think. Are they still
required?

#47 of 51 by kentn on Wed Mar 19 20:33:20 2014:

If you want to have your vote counted in an election, yes they are, according
to the by-laws. Don't make assumptions.

#48 of 51 by keesan on Thu Mar 20 02:59:43 2014:

We were told at one point that anyone who ever paid dues was a voting member,
but I think to run for office you may need to have paid recently. Do we need
more money?

#49 of 51 by kentn on Thu Mar 20 03:31:51 2014:

That was a decision by the Board at one time for one election, not a
permanent decision. We lowered dues to make it easier for people to
become members. We are okay on money right now but the idea of needing
more money is not part of becoming a member. It's in the by-laws
that you need to be a member to vote.

#50 of 51 by keesan on Thu Mar 20 12:40:21 2014:

Am I a member? I voted in the last few elections and have not paid dues for
a few years.

#51 of 51 by kentn on Thu Mar 20 13:07:05 2014:

Unless you paid for a few years in advance then the answer is likely "no,
you are not a member." The definitive answer needs to come from the
Treasurer.
