Next meeting is scheduled for 10/2/11 @ 7pm at Big Boy s in Ann Arbor. Treasurer report: most of the bills are on autopay. Gelinas now has password for Paypal; needs to check membership status. Kent has been doing some validation of new members; treasurer will need to be helping with this because Kent isn t up on everyone that s paid. State of Michigan needs an update yearly for who s on the board; has this been taken care of for this year? [Who s following up?] At a past meeting, STeve had said he would take care of the Federal Tax Form [postcard]; we haven t heard if it s been taken care of; Kent will forward the info to Joe [gelinas]. An item has been entered in co-op to discuss a by-law change for staggered terms with 5 members. We need a member list and bring the proposal to a vote. Joe is working on the list. What services should Grex offer [continued discussion]? Anything else besides the conferencing, mail, programming, read access to usenet, website, IRC? In IRC, do we want to continue shutting down Bots? Re Personal web addresses: I created a personal web address of a different user ID. It still works. What is the problem?
So, you created a username.grex.org address? How did you do that? It's not the same as grex.org/~username.
Try http://www.grex.org/~mnac/ (This site hasn't been maintained for a long time because MNAC, like Grex, is having existence problems.)
As I said that's not the same as mnac.grex.org. Read carefully.
I read #3 backwards: that you meant that grex.org/~username was what was needed. But regardless, what's wrong with the latter form? It is a perfectly good URL. Why would username.grex.org be better?
We had a request to offer the mnac.grex.org form. That's what we were discussing as an alternative to the grex.org/~mnac form. Some people like the former better and it is a personal domain of a sort, so looks more classy to some people. Just because you don't think it's better does not mean others don't. In any event, if we did offer this, both methods would still be available. So it seems we are back to the usual Grexian "it's not my way of doing things, so other people can't have their new way" sort of argument. I hope that isn't the case. In any event, we just discussed it and felt there were issues in implementation and system maintenance that we didn't have time to investigate. Maybe at some future time we'll get around to implementing it (as usual).
The 10/2/2011 meeting has been canceled and will be rescheduled. There isn't much to talk about, really. Hopefully there will be in a week or two.
I have not heard from board members, other than Denise, about what date they'd like to use to reschedule the 10/2/2011 meeting. So, right now, we are waiting on comments from 3 members.
