Command newuser: asks questions: name, user id choice... email sent to outside email address successfully or it bounces. If successfully, email includes user name and password [restricted shell]. Discussion includes nulog file [what people enter for newuser]; RT- response tracker-for trouble/problems request to staff [does it have user id/address attached to it?] Can we make validation an automatic process to make it as simple as possible? How do other systems in similar situations do newuser? Is it appropriate to look at a person s private files to validate? Root/staff looking at private files shouldn t be happening. Should an item be entered to discuss if/how to do this. Did users ok .plan to be public or private? -Validation for user proposed rules: 1) Email exchange: How did you hear about Grex? If .plan is readable, may look into it for email address. 2)No phone calls unless user says its ok to call. [In newuser, told to email porters with id to be validated. Finger command as a regular user, not pseudo]. 3)Check .plan only if world readable. Gelinas moved to accept these rules, denise seconded, motion carried. Any concerns about a potential troublemaker, email staff. If you decide not to validate someone, let staff/other porters know. -veek, cross, and kentn have been updating the webpages; Can staff help with patches that kentn and veek have come up with while cross is unavailable?? we also need to be thinking about longer term planning. Treasurer s Report: Account includes $2458, paypal $161; total $2620; after paying AT&T bill, net $2567. Currently have 12 members. Staff Report: -STeve bought up DMCA as something we should consider to help protect against potential trolls from setting us up for copyright infringements. After discussion, gelinas moved to create a DMCA account, tsty seconded, motion carried. -The second phone line hasn t been used in a couple months, will be shut off as discussed in an earlier meeting. -STeve moved that we have memberships valid through the end of the month [not actual date in the month], tsty seconded, motion carried. tsty moved to adjourn meeting, denise seconded, motion carried at 8:54.3 responses total.
"pseudo" should be "sudo" above, I believe, indicating that the user has more authority to view files than the normal user account does. Unfortunately, they sound the same when spoken.
Thanks for the correction, Kent!
