Item 24: Do you buy accordomg to the label?

Entered by omni on Sun Jan 25 17:34:50 1998:

Do you look at recording labels when buying classical music? What label
is your favorite and which one is your least favorite. I, for one have just
discovered Telarc, and from what they say in thier liner notes, they are
unique. For one, they don't over mike the sessions, and mix the music directly
on to the disc, rather than using tape. You can hear a difference.

I have also heard that Angel, Deutche Gramophone and Seraphim are also good
labels for classical.

I've found the quality of BIS recordings consistently excellent.
But it's a small company and the owner is a perfectionist.
They are also quite expensive.

You can listen to all the different labels at the public library and decide
for yourself if there is any difference which you can notice. I am not very
perceptive about these things, I enjoy most classical music even not played
all that well, perhaps I am lucky. SKR might be able to give hints.
