Donated by Kae Anne Chappel (otter): Many grexers have expressed interest in seeing Kenn (wolfmage) perform, but most of his shows lately have been for private groups and corporations, with no access to "outsiders". Direction 7 would like to donate a performance of "Into the Night" for a group of up to 30 people at a non-public location of the winning bidder's choice. We would suggest (but not require) that the buyer then make a certain number of seats at the event available for open bidding. We are excited about doing this, and see is as a great opportunity to help enhance grex's bank account. A short set of conditions: --keep the location within Michigan, preferably south of Cadillac --the performance site must be non-public, but a private room at a restaurant (or somesuch) would be fine --bidder/host will need to provide adequate seating for the audience (not just on the floor) --the date will be subject to our booking schedule, and cannot be changed by either party once it has been set30 responses total.
otter has asked for a minimum bid of $50, which seems fair to me. Let the bidding commence!
That's more than fair, and I *highly* recommend the show. I've seen it twice, and it is excellent...let me stress *excellent*.
A short description might be nice... I have no idea what it is.
Me neither. Not that I'd buy the thing, but a ticket maybe.
_Into the Night_ ... What if ghost stories are real? Enter the nocturnal world of spirits, wizards, vampyres, and things that go *shriek* in the night. Professional magician and storyteller Kenn J. Capman is your host, inviting you to join him on a tour into a world of strange and bizarre happenings. "Intense images which challenge the imagination..." --Gaylord Herald Times "Shattering the stereotypical image of the magician." --Blissfest Programme "Your 'Into the Night' show is a unique experience to be sure. It was a wonderful compliment to the turn of the century atmosphere at the Otsego Lake Inn. The strange stories and breathtaking magic are a powerful combination that left many guests speechless and awestruck. There almost seemed to be a static charge in the parlor during the show, which only enhanced the spooky feeling you created. Thank heaven for the comedy relief throughout the show." --Charles and Tracy Booth, Proprieters ********** OK, gang, that's straight from the promo material. We have run this show for many different audiences in various venues. The closest thing we've had to a complaint was when the Gaylord townsfolk tried to burn us on the courthouse lawn for exposing their children to witchcraft. >8^o It's a collection of bizarre stories illustrated by magical effects. It's more fun than grown-ups should be allowed to have. If you see it, you will *never* forget it. I promise.
p.s. If the cost seems prohibitive, grab some friends and bid as a group. We're talking about 30 seats, here. 8^}
I'm tempted to bid on this, but I guess I should think of a location first.
Know anyone with a house that has a big living/dining room or a tolerable basement?
You may want to go talk to the owner of the Gypsy Cafe. The back of his restaurant has seating, at small tables, for maybe 30 or more. There is a little stage up front. Evidently they hold poetry reading here and musical performances there from time to time. I asked about reserving this space for another group and he seemed very accommodating. The expectation is that the audience would order coffee, at least, but that's not so bad. It's a nice space.
Re: last sentence, first paragraph. Here and there is one and the same place. Amazing, but true. ;-)
Gee, chelsea, makes me wish I was living in Michigan! I would like to see it. *sigh*
$50.
<robh applauds scg>
Yay!
Wow, only two more days until I get this performance for 30 people for only $50.
Less than six hours until scg's bid becomes final. Going, going, ...
<grin> $51. I can sell tickets . . .
(When we ate lunch at the Gypsy Cafe here in Ann Arbor, everyone thought that would be the perfect venue for this show. They have a nice little back room with a nice little stage.)
Where is the Gypsy Cafe?
Fourth Avenue, next door to the co-op. Former location of Gateway To Afrika.
I just sent wolfmage mail about our ideas, and I'm giong to talk it over with him and otter tomorrow.
Well, it's up to nephi now, I guess, unless somebody bids against him. If he's selling tickets, I think I'm content to just buy one.
Two days to go until nephi's bid of $51 becomes final. Going, going, ...
I would advise all of you to read the original post. Tickets must be *auctioned off* (not sold) to grexers only. Also, the show must take place in southern Michigan. I'm sending e-mail to key players in a little while.
Sarah, I just read your mail and the original text of this item. It says nothing about tickets having to be auctioned off. What #0 says is: "We would suggest (but not require) that the buyer then make a certain number of seats at the event available for open bidding. Wolfmage's offer is quite generous but if he is going to ask for different conditions at this point, when we seem to have a winning bidder, well... Maybe it would be best to release nephi from his commitment and start again with the new rules clearly stated up front.
I have to agree with chelsea there.
Apparently, there some confusion and miscommunication here. re: #25 No one is asking "for different conditions at this point when we seem to have a winning bidder,. . ." We are trying to stress auctioning tickets as opposed to selling them. Nothing has changed on this end. We still adhere to what was already "clearly stated up front." Kae and I had a long discussion this morning regarding this percieved problem. If the winnin bidder decided to sell seats and forwarded the money to grex, then it would be essentially the same as a group bidding en masse, an idea which we support. We also trust that everyone will respect the spirit in which this offer is made and act in a like manner by not taking advantage of the situation to turn a profit. We believe that should this become the case;there is such a thing as karma.
Please forgive the typos in the last. I either need sleep or another pot of coffee. I like coffee more.
Actually, #0 just says that the buyer gets a performance for up to 30 people. It says nothing about the winner being required to sell tickets and give the money to Grex.
This item is SOLD to nephi, for $51. I trust nephi to use this in the
spirit in which it was intended.
