Grex Auction1 Conference

Item 30: T-shirt, mug, etc., imprinted with your choice of photo

Entered by popcorn on Sun May 19 05:04:53 1996:

Donated by TS Taylor (tsty):
A t-shirt and ceramic beverage mug. Before you get all enthused about this
there is more, yes, *more* to this than would ordinarily be considered.

Photographically imprinted onto either will be the IMAGE OF YOUR CHOICE!

And this image can be photographically printed onto either the front
or back of the t-shirt .. or printed for a left-hander or right=hander
on the ceramic beverage mug. And you receive your original image
returned to you unscathed.

Any computer image in jsut about any format ( i can convert about 40
different types) - Any photograph (not film negative, sorry, the transfer
is exhorbitantly expensive) you have of any reasonable size, any film
positive (like a large-format slide, larger than 35mm) will work just fine.

The smallest real-life image that will fill the space available is
approx 1.25 inches on it's shortest axis. (like the center section
of a drug store print)

For a slightly higher bid, you may also have two lines of text superimposed
over the image, either across the top/bottom or up/down the left/right
edge, as you should specify, or a combination up/left/bottom/down/right/top.

don't worry about breaking anything ... the Borg has seen the ugliest mug
in existence (last Nov. i think) and its stil intact after all this time.
Ummmm, it had my face on it .... <g> ... and my email address, fwiw.

You could choose a baseball cap, or 2x3 keychain, or 3 in round button,
or a 1 Milliion dollar bill, or something else, but t-shirts and mugs
seem to be the most useful.

Two items total are hereby offered. These are really great for gifts
or memorial thingies -or to display your own artistic creativities.

[To clarify: The two highest bidders each get one item. -vm]

TS -- What's the status of shipping these? Are you paying, or would the
person buying the item pay for shipping?

as for delivery, if it's somewhat local to A2 the winnerz and i can
work it out. remember, the winnerz have to get some sort of picture
to me to print onto the mug or shirt.

i guess i could split the shippng costs if shipping is required.

BTW, TS made me a mug the other night with a whole bunch of signatures
on it. It came out very well.

I bid $20. Am I in time?

#13 of 40 by robh on Fri May 31 23:12:09 1996:

Her bid was at 11 PM, yours was at 6 PM. No problem.
The bidding remains open.

#15 of 40 by kaplan on Tue Jun 4 18:14:39 1996:

Two top bidders will win. At #12 the top bidders were Chanur and Freida.
At #14 the top bidders are Freida and Chanur. Am I missing something? What
does Freida hope to gain by that higher bid?

#16 of 40 by robh on Tue Jun 4 18:56:54 1996:

I have no idea, but I'm not about to stop her. >8)

#17 of 40 by ajax on Tue Jun 4 18:57:50 1996:

Non-equal bids are important, so if someone topped hers, there's no dispute
over which of the two equal bids is second.

#18 of 40 by freida on Wed Jun 5 02:35:59 1996:

Well, it was my understanding that it was a t-shirt or a cup that we were
bidding on. High bidder, in my assumption, gets the choice. I want the
t-shirt!, therefore, I place the high bid to get choice...understand?

#19 of 40 by tsty on Thu Jun 6 16:11:58 1996:

high-bid-gets-choice sounds reasonable to me. ummmm, this also could
add some confusion, perhaps.

ummmmmm ........ hmmmmm .... <think happens> ..... !lightbulb

what does the assembled multitude think of this:

the two high bids can each choose one of the objects de art?

that might result in 2 t-shirts being produced, 2 ceramic mugs or
one mug and one t-shirt. any of those three outcomes are acceptable
to me.

thoughts?

#20 of 40 by robh on Thu Jun 6 17:06:34 1996:

Sounds like the best way to do it.

#21 of 40 by robh on Thu Jun 6 17:13:06 1996:

<<any of those outcomes *is* (not "are" <duh, dummy>) acceptable to me>>

#23 of 40 by bentley on Fri Jun 7 17:14:05 1996:

$22

(sorry to enter late into this, but I just thought of something I
want on a mug. I'm having several friends sign a piece of paper, and
have that put on a mug, to give to a friend.)

#24 of 40 by aruba on Fri Jun 7 21:06:44 1996:

That's just like the one TS made for me, Betsy, and it came out great.

#30 of 40 by bentley on Fri Jun 14 22:41:56 1996:

While I decide whether to raise my bid or not, I have a question: What is
the usual charge for transferring a photo/whatever onto a mug, anyway?

(Yes, I know, the money is going to Grex, which is a very very good cause;
but I might want to have more mugs done in the future, and I want to know
whether I can afford to).

#31 of 40 by freida on Sat Jun 15 03:49:51 1996:

Yes, I would like to know the cost of doing same to T-shirts!

#32 of 40 by tsty on Sun Jun 16 02:34:52 1996:

ummm, later for that info - (or email me directly) - and the reason
for that is because this conference and this item is for the purpose
of growing some grex dollars rather than using this platform for
hyping my company and furnishing my bank account.

i do appreciate the interest, sincerely, but this is notthe time nor place.

#33 of 40 by robh on Sun Jun 16 23:19:24 1996:

#34 of 40 by brighn on Mon Jun 17 05:58:12 1996:

isn't it also theoretically illegal, or at any rate against
many ISP's "fair use" policies, to advertise?
(except, of course, on established Web channels)
(or am i all confoozled about that?)

#35 of 40 by robh on Mon Jun 17 14:07:49 1996:

Most ISPs have no problem with advertising, if you're paying them.

Most free Web page providers will slam you hard if you even try it.

#36 of 40 by brighn on Mon Jun 17 14:36:06 1996:

Well, there's the point, I guess... if you pay the service, you can
advert.

#37 of 40 by bentley on Mon Jun 17 22:41:31 1996:

I wasn't asking for a public answer. I figured I'd ask, and if tsty felt like
telling me, he would, either publicly or privately.

#38 of 40 by tsty on Mon Jun 17 23:34:42 1996:

yes, i'll answer emailed questions.
