I think it's pretty early to predict a Democratic president in 2008. I think it's pretty likely there will be a Democratic controlled House of Representatives after the elections of this year. There are a lot of people who are fed up with the GOP right now, including myself. It will be interesting whether that Congress can shift the tide of public opinion as the Gingrich/Contract With America Congress did in 1994. If they're seen as blocking government from doing what it ought to be doing, there'll be another Republican president in 2008. If they can correct the excesses of the current Congress, be seen as ethical, and cause the president to become more moderate, they could take a lot of power back from the Republicans. There will be other factors, too, of course. Will the GOP nominate someone to carry on the work of Bush, or someone who will make substantial changes? Will they be able to canonize Bush like they did Reagan? Will the Bush administration be able to bring home a lot of the troops from Iraq and Afghanistan? Will there be any other major attacks on the US? How will the economy be doing in 2008?
