VeriPay -- The smart wallet you have implanted in your body.

Excerpt:
[...
Applied Digital has attracted scorn from some fundamentalist
Christians, who believe that VeriChip is the fabled "mark of the
beast" of biblical lore. According to the book of Revelation, Satan
will someday force people to "receive a mark" on their hands or
foreheads in order to buy or sell.

Applied Digital officials say such concern is unfounded because
people are chipped voluntarily.

That's the best argument they have for rejecting such mysticism?

Even worse, it doesn't really work: People willingly accepted the Mark of
the Beast.

Irrationality cannot be convicted by rational argument. You should know this,
Rane.

Lets read the passage they are refereing to:

"He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to
receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead so that no one could buy
or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number
of his name. This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate
the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666" (Rev.
13:16-18).

To me, this doesn't sound like a microchip. This sounds like a visible mark.
And do they plant the chip in the right or left hand?

"A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: 'If ANYONE worships
the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand,
he, too, will drink of the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full
strength into the cup of his wrath. He will be tormented with burning sulfur
in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. And the smoke of their
torment rises for ever and ever. There is no rest day or night for those who
worship the beast and his image, or for anyone who receives the mark of his
name. This calls for patient endurance on the part of THE SAINTS who obey
God's commandments and remain faithful to Jesus' " (Rev. 14:9-12).

Here it says they must worship the beast. Is having a chip implanted worship?
This is going to have to be something whereby the followers of the beast can
see and recognize each other.

I do not believe computer chips are the mark of the beast.

I thought we'd already established that UPC barcodes were the mark of
the beast. ;>

I fully aware that irrationality does not often listen to rationality, but
that does not mean that it isn't worth pointing that which is irrational.
Someone will listen and that is one blow for rationality. Always saying
they won't is self-defeating.
