we lost power last night due to the high winds. Anybody else in the area effected?18 responses total.
We live just up the road from you but didn't lose power, although the lights flickered a few times. Those were (and still are) some winds! I was afraid I'd see lots of tree branches down this morning, but no signs of damage visible through the windows.
power for the entire complex went out at about 8:20 and stayed out until 5:30 this morning.
there were about 3 sq miles that were out of power out in scio township last night. mostly between baker and zeeb just south of jackson road.
People lost power in Plymouth (for overnight) and in Belleville for various times, and around town (Green Road was dark this morning), according to my coworkers who have had power out.
Actually, the Scio outage extended east of Zeeb, by may be a quarter-mile: the sign of the shopping center that includes Huron Scuba was lighted, but Indepedence plaza was not. I woke up around 2:30 to discover the bedroom light was on. (I suspect that was what awakened me.) A usually reliable source reported a roll-over accident on Zeeb at Jackson: apparently, the wind blew over a south-bound car, just after my source passed through the intersection, heading west.
I believe it's only 2 miles from zeeb to baker ;-) yeah.. that scuba sign was lighted, but the rest stop between the two exists was out. the light at baker & jackson was on, but the light at baker & I-94 was out as were both truck stops.
I rode my bike home last night about 8 - it was cool to see the leaves blowing all over the streets. I had to pedal pretty hard going under Randall arch - the wind was concentrated right in my face.
We were without power between about 9 pm and 4:30 am - after some earlier brief outages.
(I've been told that Holt High School [south-ish of Lansing] lost power last night. my house didn't lose power, but it was pretty flaky for a while and reset the modem more than I'd've liked.)
Lost power for less than a second, causing my PC to reboot.
http://www.unitedmedia.com/comics/arlonjanis/archive/arlonjanis-20031113.ht ml The winds were strong enough to blow over our gas grill / cart. Fortunate that the hood glass didn't break.
The lights dimmed briefly, more than once, but we didn't lose power. (In southwestern Ann Arbor.)
Different high winds here, but the two-man maintenance crew that AT&T sent to their High Mountain microwave relay site when I reported a power outage that killed our circuit between Ketchikan and Prince Rupert, BC, are trapped at the site until winds die down and cloud cover lifts enough to allow the helicopter to return and pick them up. Also my coworker Don is trapped out in the forest somewhere on Prince of Wales Island because the float plane that was supposed to pick him up at the end of his hunting trip can't take off from Ketchikan. If my sister is prevented by weather from returning from Juneau tomorrow (as is somewhat likely, travel in and out of Juneau this time of year is very iffy) I score a no-air-travel hat trick!
The lights were flickering a lot and my cable went out a couple of times but there wasnt anything that I really wanted to watch anyways.
I had one 5-second brownout, but that happens so often I didn't even think to connect it with the wind. All my computers are on UPS's because the power is so unreliable in my area. Detroit Edison is by far the least reliable power company I've ever been served by. Even the Upper Peninsula Power Company was better.
I worked until 8 pm last night, then drove home in my pickup-with- topper. Very interesting driving. I took it pretty easy all the way to avoid being blown around too much (on the highway) and fallen branches (on the back roads). I didn't have any problems at all, and didn't see any branches or trees in the road.
well... I wasn't there...
who're you?
