This is sick and despicable. The things people do to defenceless animals.
I wish we could still have them al taken out and shot.

Yeah, I have a few bad stories along these lines. People who stoop to
cowardice instead of dealing with the owners.

The solution is simple. Respect the 2nd Ammendment and allow citizens
to carry. The problem of unleashed dogs would disappear.

Citizens who object to expressions of public religious sentiment seem to
at the same time support imposing their views on the rest of the
citizenry which seems rather odd.

It depends on the specie of canine I suppose, some are appropriate for
an urban setting, others are not. It is also possible to have the
citizenry agree on "leash free" areas so long as it is known. One could
also restrict by breed of canine as well, A minature poodle is not much
of a threat to children where are obviously canines that are a threat to
even a well armed adult.

When was the last time you read a news story about a cat killing a
child?

(The problem of assholes leaving poisoned meat in parks might vanish too. ;-)

I thought it was "Poisoning PIGEONS in the Park!" [emphASis addED]

i guess he's not worried about some little
kid or streetie getting into his sausage, eh?

I think that the guy doing this is a real sicko. But I also think that
dog owners who let their dogs off the leash in public places are being
pretty inconsiderate. It's intimidating to be in a park and see a
doberman bounding at you, barking. Dog owners generally seem pretty
clueless about how this affects other people. I used to deliver papers
and I've been chased by more than my share of angry dogs, often while
the owner stood idly by and said things like, "Oh, he won't hurt you."
A dog that was locked inside a house once broke a window trying to get
at me -- you can't tell me he didn't have malice in his heart.

Stepping in dog poop left by people who think the world is their dog's
toilet is no fun, either.

with lotsa rusty spikes like on a death metal album cover?

I clean 'em. Giving a victim tetanus would be considered an aggravating
circumstance.

Maybe I should carry both the OC and the gun off duty...

I really object to attention from dogs - who likes it when they sniff
up your crotch? Amazingly enough the owners allow it to happen while
then telling the dog to stop it. Dog lovers allow their pets all sorts
of liberties that infringe on those of people.

Yeah. Gun owners are a lot more considerate.

We were walking in Saginaw forest on a muddy day. Jim had on white pants.
We crossed paths with a woman with two large unleashed dogs. One of them,
trying to be friendly, jumped all over Jim. I don't recall any apology. At
the park entry is a sign saying all pets must be leashed. There are lots of
unleashed dogs on the park trails around here.

I just had this hilarious mental image of keesan trying to poison dogs in a
city park, but failing because she used tofu and none of the dogs were dumb
enough to eat it. :)

Of course, the solution is to have special dog parks where dogs are
allowed off leash which leaves the other parks available for kids and
stuff.

regarding resp:13 Yes, some dog owners do that. Some parents allow
their children all sorts of liberties that infringe on those of other
people. Of course, if I am walking with my dogs on a leash (a regular
one, not the 20ft retractable one) and someone gets close enough to me
that my dogs can sniff their crotch, I figure they have it coming for
invading my personal space like that.

I also believe that people should be held responsible for things that
their dogs do. I mean if a dog bites someone, the owner should be held
criminally responsible if they were in any way negligent (and having a
dog off leash would count as negligent, imho). This is the only reason
I think leash laws are ok. So that if a dog bites someone while off
leash, the owner is automatically negligent. I dont think it is a good
use of public resources to actually enforce leash laws. Of course, I
dont think it is a good use of public resources to enforce drug laws
either.

Anyone who would put out poison like that is a sick person. I mean, it
is one thing to lobby the city to enforce the laws but it is totally
another thing to take the law into one's own hands.
