Yup, in order to escape the threat of sabre, we are taking drastic
action. But we aren't actually shutting Grex down. Were just merging
it into Arbornet. Goto 'arbornet.org' and join the 'grex' conference to
see the new Grex.

#2 of 61 by md on Sat Jul 12 14:10:35 2003:

Poor old m-net looks pretty moribund with its lack of funds and its
incompetent management/tech support, but Grex seems healthy enough. ;-)

#3 of 61 by sabre on Sat Jul 12 14:13:14 2003:

who are you calling incompetent? m-net rocks.

#4 of 61 by md on Sat Jul 12 14:56:26 2003:

No, it wobbles.

#5 of 61 by gull on Mon Jul 14 15:54:41 2003:

But it usually doesn't fall down.

#6 of 61 by flem on Mon Jul 14 18:44:40 2003:

re #2: Hahaha, now *that's* a troll. ;)

#7 of 61 by jules on Mon Jul 14 20:27:48 2003:

ive noticed grexers spend a lot more time insulting mnet than mnetters spend
insulting grexers.

#8 of 61 by jaklumen on Mon Jul 14 23:40:03 2003:

Hopefully it's not a superiority complex.

#9 of 61 by janc on Tue Jul 15 00:25:30 2003:

I don't think #7 is true. Heck, the 'grex' conference on M-Net is much older
than the 'mnut' conference on Grex. I haven't looked at either in ages, but
I'll bet the 'grex' conference has more in it.

#10 of 61 by scott on Tue Jul 15 05:37:51 2003:

i haven't been on MNet in a long time, but usually the situtation was that
the MNetters would talk/joke/bitch about Grexers, and Grexers would
talk/joke/bitch about Grexers.

#11 of 61 by polytarp on Tue Jul 15 06:22:59 2003:

YOu mean Agora conference, Janc.

Really. Couldn't tell.

#14 of 61 by jmsaul on Tue Jul 15 12:01:47 2003:

Re #10: In my experience, M-Netters talk/joke/bitch about Grexers, and
Grexers talk/joke/bitch about M-Net. Targetting individual people
as opposed to making broad comments about the system.

#15 of 61 by slynne on Tue Jul 15 16:59:05 2003:

And bear in mind too that there are a lot of people who are both
Mnetters *and* Grexers. I like to call them Mexers

#16 of 61 by edina on Tue Jul 15 19:13:24 2003:

I'm a mexer.

#17 of 61 by mynxcat on Tue Jul 15 20:14:57 2003:

RE 7 "ive noticed grexers spend a lot more time insulting mnet than
mnetters spend insulting grexers."

Haha. In my experience, the mnetters tended to bitch about grexers
more than the grexers bitch about the mnetters. The mnetters will take
any oppurtunity to put grex down, but the grexers tend to ignore
everything that is mnet. You may see references against mnet in party,
but it's pretty rare to see it in agora.

And btw "mnut" on grex was actually the brainchild of a "mexer", who,
in my opinion is slightly more mnetter than grexer. If I remember
correctly, he was the founder of agora on mnet too.

like to be a Mexer too?

#22 of 61 by polytarp on Wed Jul 16 09:37:16 2003:

SEX HER!
AHAHaha

#23 of 61 by md on Wed Jul 16 11:58:17 2003:

mynxcat is right, mnet is mostly ignored here, but hatred for Grex
consumeth souls on mnet. It's been that way for years. I think they
stereotype Grexers as a bunch of humorlessly pontificating Volvo
liberals and hippie-wannabes. I wonder why? ;-)

mynxcat is also right about the origins of the Agora cf on mnet and the
M-Nut cf on Grex. Agora came first. M-Nut was an afterthought and has
never been very successful.

#24 of 61 by mynxcat on Wed Jul 16 12:34:02 2003:

Which proves our point, doesn't it? Mnet can't seem to get enough of grex,
and the grexers ignore mnet so much, that mnut on grex is by and large
ignored. I think the only people who participate in mnut are those "mexers".

FWIW, I personally think both cfs were a great idea, and enjoy them immensely,
when i get a chance to read them.

#25 of 61 by polytarp on Wed Jul 16 17:24:48 2003:

I'd like to note that md has forged official documents relating to both of
those conferences. I hardly think he has a right to comment.

#26 of 61 by md on Wed Jul 16 17:59:48 2003:

And still I comment, time permitting.

#27 of 61 by sabre on Wed Jul 16 20:01:17 2003:

Everyone has the right to comment at anytime to any thread I create.
They can say whatever they want whenever they want.
That even goes for a stupid dipshit like you polytarp.

#28 of 61 by jmsaul on Wed Jul 16 22:55:25 2003:

Grexers are funnier.

#30 of 61 by furs on Thu Jul 17 15:07:49 2003:

I like both.

Here I can be just normal.

Mnet I can say fucker.

#31 of 61 by mynxcat on Thu Jul 17 16:50:34 2003:

You can say fucker here. I won't tell.

Grexers are funnier - but not by intention. Mnetters think they're
funny, but except for maybe one or two, by and large they aren't

#32 of 61 by furs on Thu Jul 17 18:17:20 2003:

wooo we should all go out for some mexercan food!

#38 of 61 by jules on Fri Jul 18 02:54:18 2003:

im a mexer. i like mexican. im down.

actually, i never ever go to party on either system. its just my observation
that i see more mnet bashing then grex bashing.

i think ive probably been on both systems longer than most people. i was one
of the first 20 users ever on mnet. just because mdw is a grexer doesnt make
grex superior. i wasnt dissing grex. no need to defend it. some people are
more comfortable one one system or the other. some of us get something out
of both. they are different. different=good. relax.

#39 of 61 by jaklumen on Fri Jul 18 04:32:17 2003:

*shrug* I started out on M-Net. I got a welcome from deja, and I
hung with karenz (Karen Zimny), but other than that, I don't remember
an overwhelming urge to stay. I guess I never checked out the bbs
there. Heh, I do remember the set of party noises were different =)
Some were cooler.

#40 of 61 by mynxcat on Fri Jul 18 13:55:45 2003:

RE 38 Not defending grex, just that my observation about mnet is
different from yours. :)

However, I believe that users from both systems could learn from each
other. Grexers could learn to be a little more laid back from the
mnetters. Every BBS item doesn't have to turn into a political or
mechanical discussion, some items are entered just for the fun of it.
Getting all huffy with trolls is ridiculous...

Mnet on the other hand could learn to be a little more noobie friendly
(assuming that they do want new users). The social hierarchy, if you
can call it that, is more pronounced in mnet - not to say that it's
not on grex, but that seems to be relegated mostly to the bod and the
staffers. Could learn to be a little more serious in their bbs. It's
fun for a while, then it gets old.

What we need is a happy middle ground between the two. I think
the "Mexers" are just the kind of people I would see on this kind of
system. Most of the Mexers seem much cooler than te pure grexers or
mnetters.

#41 of 61 by polytarp on Fri Jul 18 14:03:03 2003:

M-Net is supposedly going to get THOUSANDS of new users.

#42 of 61 by mynxcat on Fri Jul 18 15:00:04 2003:

Yeah, that's great.

I wave at Kathe often while on my way to work. She drives to CMH the

She said that - she said she had no idea where you were going, I said you were
on the way to work. :) It was nice to see her. Did you know ASH had movied?
I had no clue!

#57 of 61 by slynne on Tue Jul 22 16:16:15 2003:

Yes, I ran into Jim Webber who is the Asst Man these days. He told me
that they moved. They are down to 6 beds. I wonder what is going on
with the house on Normal. Maybe I'll walk my dogger past there and spy
on it.

#58 of 61 by twenex on Fri Jul 25 17:10:23 2003:

I'm prolly one of the latest Mexers.

I'm also an atheist.

I'm also pro-choice on the abortion issue.

I'd be interested to know which (if any) of Mexer/atheist/bisexual/pro-choice
bru and sabre think is more likely to send me to hell to burn forever.

Well, not really; but I bet they'll tell me anyway.
