Item 180: Something to think about...

Entered by pvn on Wed Aug 27 06:53:42 2003:

As the KIA count increases in Iraq of our own patriots, increases little
beyond what would normally be "training accidents" in such a large scale
operation it is interesting to note a few facts. The "body count" in
Iraq of US troo[s is less than that of the murder rate in Chicago over
the same period of time. Here in Chicago we are at peace, but Iraq is a
"quagmire"? But there is a gang-war going on here...

No, what is interesting is that the body count of Iraqi patriots killed
in the same events is about the same as our own. For every "drone" of
the "bushies" killed there is an Iraqi patriot who is fighting for his
or her own country who dies along with "the drone", fighting for the
same goals, sacrificing for the same ends, giving his life for the same
concept - liberty.

I think it's interesting that we've now lost more people after "major
combat" was declared over than we lost in the actual war. We won the
war, but we seem to be in danger of losing the peace.

Have we come up with an answer yet as to what we are
doing over there?

Saddam isn't in power. Iraq isn't the threat to our
national security. And the Iraqi people want us
to end our occupation of their land. Other countries
want to help but we are refusing to release our power
grip. All of this is simply breeding new terrorists.

Someone should spank our butt.

"And the Iraqi people want us to end our occupation of their land."

And, how would you know this? From Dr. Dean? Reports from those on
the ground state that Iraqis fear what might happen if the US were to
pull out prematurely.

And, why should we "release our power grip" to a bunch of losers who
are sure to screw up in Iraq as they have done elsewhere around the
globe? Is that Dr. Dean talking, too?

Re #2: I disagree. We broke Iraq, now it's our job to put it back
together. It would be wrong for us to leave before the basic
infrastructures for power, water, sanitation, and day-to-day security
have been recreated.

Iraq was never a threat to national security, but that's no longer the
issue. The issue now is that we have to clean up the mess we helped
create. That's life.

If we shouldn't have invaded in the first place, what makes you think that
we will do something esle that we should?

And we don't even seem to be getting any oil out of it.

True, but its much easier to create a mess than it is to clean it up.

RE#1
Did you even read #0? If so what is your point?
The fact that we have lost more in the lull than in the major combat
shows the success of our attack. Iraq was a threat to every freedom
loving nation. It was a proven state sponsor of terrorism. It gave $$
to the families of palestine's suicide bomber.

good point #0
I haven't heard any liberals whine about Chicago's murder rate. I guess
it's not on the liberal agenda. They just want to find fault with the
great republican party.

#12 of 14 by rcurl on Wed Aug 27 23:16:54 2003:

C'mon - Iraq was a threat to very few "freedom loving nations", if any.
It was not a proven state sponsor of terrorism apart from those dumb
reparations, and those were awards, not sponsorship.

We liberals are having the faults of the republican party thrust into our
laps - we don't have to "find" them.

The deathtoll in the chicago "quagmire" skyrocketed today. Nine KIAs,
seven of them in one building. (oddly enough, the two deaths in a
traffic accident snarled one highway so an employee arrived late and was
just walking in the door when the only one of the employees to escape
grabbed him and they both rushed across the street to call the cops) I
think I'll start listing the after action reports. From just last week:
- An 8-year old girl sitting on her front porch is caught in gang
crossfire and later dies. Police retaliate by announcing a crackdown on
both gang's members that will continue until they give up the mopes who
done it. So far arrests have envolved such serious crimes as
jaywalking, spitting on the sidewalk, possessing an open can of beer in
public, parking too far away from the curb, obstructed view (bobble-head
doll on rear dash - yeah, the CPD cops can get real creative),
loitering, and whatever else they can think of. Even jailed members are
not immune as they are now prohibited from having mustard on their
balogna and white-bread sandwiches (every meal is), TVs are permanently
tuned to PBS (no more _America's Most Wanted_), air conditioning has
been turned off (to save money), and the automated fingerprint ID system
has "broken" and manual backup system is in operation (it takes much
longer for all mopes to bail out) and everybody knows why. The "jumpout
boys" are also specifically targeting the two gangs. (THe ACLU is
"monitoring the situation"...)
- a "retired" gang leader walking his dog early morning was shot. Eight
hits from a 15-round clip at point blank range (I teld yah before these
'bangers can't shoot fer shit) and despite the best efforts to leave him
on the ground as long as possible and transport to the furthest possible
ER the mope is still alive.
