Is it a person in a vegetative state? And yes, I do recall that it can
be eaten. LOL

#175 of 222 by papa on Wed Oct 11 15:02:19 2017:

(This one is a freebie. A person in a vegetative state would be an "animal"
for Q1, not "vegetable".)

re #174
And nobody would mistake Terry Schiavo for a fruit

#177 of 222 by tfurrows on Wed Oct 18 17:01:06 2017:

I'm feeling very lost on this one, which I attribute to my own personal
turmoil, and not the boundaries of the game. So, I made some lists of what
we know.

Affirmative:
- Per Papa's comment, it is "something completely different"
- It IS a vegetable only in the general sense of the game
- It IS a food for human consumption
- The shape IS more yonic than phallic
- It COULD be confused by some to be a fruit
- A person using it as a drug COULD overdose on it

Negative:
- It is NOT used for sauces
- It is NOT a squash
- It is NOT generally sold as a single piece
- It is NOT a vegetable
- It is NOT a fruit
- It is NOT a melon
- It is NOT coffee
- It is NOT a mushroom
- It is NOT a person in a vegetative state
- One does NOT normally eat the entire thing, skin and all
- The skin is NOT striped or banded

Unanswerable
- Yes/No is not a sufficient answer for "is it green"

We have two more questions left (since walkman's question was deemed a
freebie).

Going over tfurrows summary, I realized a couple of things:
1. We skipped question #12.
2. The answer to question #5, "Is it generally sold as a single piece?" should
be "I can't answer" rather than the "No" I gave.

I apologize for the confusion. Let's set the question count back by 1 for the
miscount and 2 more for the bad answer, which makes the last question ...

Q16: Is it an herb?

A16: No

#183 of 222 by tfurrows on Wed Nov 8 05:18:34 2017:

Q17: Is it commonly sold in western grocery stores?

#184 of 222 by papa on Wed Nov 8 06:03:46 2017:

(I am interpreting "western" as "American" since I don't have much experience
with grocery stores other than in the US and Japan.)

A17: Yes

THE ANSWER IS: APPLE PIE!

I stumped you!

#193 of 222 by papa on Wed Nov 15 16:16:07 2017:

Question recap:

18. Is it a root? ............................................... No
19. Is it an egg? ............................................... No
20. Is it a flower? ............................................. No

I guess I could have answered question 9 "Yes". I interpreted the question
to be asking whether or not one normally ate the whole thing in one sitting,
but it is true that you do eat the whole thing, including the skin/crust.
Hope that ambiguity didn't throw you.

That was more difficult than I thought it would be.

#194 of 222 by mijk on Wed Nov 15 20:13:59 2017:

Well done papa! See if you can do it again.

#195 of 222 by papa on Thu Nov 16 10:29:23 2017:

Would there be a problem if we started a new conference item for each game
round? I think it would make reviewing questions in the crrent round a lot
easier.

#196 of 222 by tfurrows on Thu Nov 16 19:45:46 2017:

What if 20Q had it's own conference?

#197 of 222 by papa on Thu Nov 16 22:52:29 2017:

That wold be ideal if we are going to continue the game indefinately.

#200 of 222 by tfurrows on Wed Dec 6 17:33:39 2017:

Is creating a new conference something cross would have to do?

#201 of 222 by papa on Thu Dec 7 15:28:31 2017:

tfurrows, congratulations on response #200!

I think it is correct that only cross or another admin can create a new
conference. I'm not sure whether he wants to bother with changes to Backtalk.

I was thinking of starting the next 20 Questions round as a new item in the
Agora conference.

Anyone think it would be good to have a copy of the games on Gopher?

#202 of 222 by tfurrows on Thu Dec 7 15:34:17 2017:

I think gopher would be a lot of fun... what about script-based, interactive,
so the gopher audience could take part in the fun? Not a copy I guess, but
move the thing over to gopher and try it out there?

#203 of 222 by papa on Fri Dec 8 02:46:57 2017:

Giving people an alternative to Backtalk for accessing the game is what
gave me the Gopher idea. I was thinking of mirroring the BT posts by
hand to my gopherhole and accepting questions on either BT or by e-mail.

A Gopher-based app might be an interesting challenge. I wonder if the
BT API would allow Gopher to generate BT posts rather than the other
way around.

#204 of 222 by mijk on Mon Dec 11 20:35:35 2017:

I vote for papa, and tfurrows to be granted some admin privilages for running
thier own conferences, and maintaining the gopher server, in line with
Grex.org policy.

#205 of 222 by cross on Tue Dec 12 20:15:20 2017:

Sure; that seems reasonable. Conferences can be created for folks, and
I certainly don't mind handing over gopher admin rights to some folks.

#206 of 222 by tfurrows on Wed Dec 13 03:15:53 2017:

mijk, I appreciate your confidence :) I think cross has it under control
though... I don't know that I could add much. Papa might be a great match for
helping with backtalk/bbs though, I think he knows more about it than I do.

#207 of 222 by papa on Wed Dec 13 15:59:08 2017:

I wouldn't mind being fairwitness if cross wants to create a conference for
Twenty Questions. I might need some pointers since it seems Backtalk
fairwitnesses are a vanishing breed.

#208 of 222 by cross on Wed Dec 13 21:33:48 2017:

I've got to figure out how to create a conference and I'm a bit swamped
at the moment, but I'll give it a go. :-)

Or would it be better used the Iq conference ("The place for puzzles,
riddles, and other trivia")? Since no one has posted there since 2006,
I don't think anyone will be bothered if we create an new item for each
game round (it looks like several games, like the "n-Letter Word Game"
serieses were run that way back in the day).

#213 of 222 by kentn on Thu Dec 14 04:00:43 2017:

We used to do multiple items for the letter match game, so I don't think
it would be a problem to do a new item for each round of 20 questions.
If it should get to be overwhelming we could always create a new IQ
conference, but I kind of doubt that will be a problem.

YES and now it's a brisk walk through a graveyard.

Side note: No one ever plants a tree for Fentanyl Floyd. There are no
prayer circles or positive community cleanups. It's only looting and
arson. One could say that God is a nihilist b/c the Fentanyl Floyd was
struck down by lightning. What are the actual statistical
probabilities? In a lifetime, there's a 1 in 15,300 chance according to
the National Weather Service. BUT another variable is the angle in
which the lightning struck.
