Grex Nature Item 2: What is it??
Entered by katie on Fri Aug 2 21:50:20 UTC 1991:

The other day Valerie von Puffmaize asked me if I could identify an
insect on her vegetable plant if she were to describe it to me. It
turned out to be a katydid.
This item is for you to ask me and others for help in figuring out
just what kind of spider that is in the corner, and what sort of weed
is that at the side of the garage, and just what manner of animal was
that you ran over the other day?

I have some charts of Pennsylvania wildlife if anyone wants to know what they
ran over in PA.

there is a type of jumping spider i have never found
yet in an insect book.
they were all over the area where i grew up. they are about
a quarter to a third of an inch long, and are black and white striped.
they love to climb walls, especially screens, and jump at people.

Hee hee. The infamous "gotcha" spider...lurking and waiting for little kids
to walk by...I love those guys!

I love tiny jumping spiders. They're awfully cute.
I especially like the grey ones, that look kind of like a cool stone.

re #1, if the plants are called "katy-would-know"s, is that why the
insect was called "katy-did" (as in "katy-did-know")? *heh*
