So are there any particular plans for what happens with the money we raise?
Is there some unwritten law about bidding on your own product? (per item #7) actually could unload it, maybe i could scam w.w.w. access out of the deal?
oops, a sentance dissapeared! now where the heck did it go???
Re 1: Hopefully we can use the auction proceeds to get a faster Internet connection. It depends on how much we raise and how much a net connection will cost. Re 2-3: Could you try that again? I'm not sure what you're asking. Yup, you're welcome to bid on your own donation to the auction, but the money you spend on buying what you donated would go to Grex.
I'd like to suggest that when an item has gone a week without any bids, instead of it being immediately sold, maybe the auctioneers should enter a response to let people know this is their last chance to bid. You could just say "Going once..." and maybe "Going twice..." the next day, etc. That gives people a chance to change their mind about bidding; especially if they skimmed an item because there were others they were interested in, and it doesn't sink in until later that they want to bid.
That makes mucho good sense. Thanks!
I was planning on making an announcement six days after the final bid, to the effect of, "Last chance!"
Hey, is there a minimum bid? I just had to ask.. What if I bid 5 cents for the mouse pad and 25 cents for the SVGA card (nobodys bidded yet on these). Well, on one hand anyone could beat those bids and it might get started, but, what if I got the card for 25 cents??!? Maybe you should let people bid anything but if it comes up to be, lets say less than $5.00, maybe you should charge a min. of $5.. So if someone out bids me by $.50, they get it but at least they'd donate $5.. Or something to that effect?? no? Maybe that pad isn't worth $5, but the time and effort and what not... ect.. You get my point, if you could expect at least $5 from everything it'd be worth doing this no matter what you auctioned... See ya..
JWT's point is a valid one, especially when you must consider that, if the successful bidder lives out of town, the item may have to be mailed to that person, and 25 cents won't even mail a letter anymore.
Some of the people posting items have stated minimum bids. It might be a good idea for those people who's items haven't been bid on yet.
(By the way, current bids total just over $300).
If an item must be shipped, who is responsible for paying the shipping and handling?? the donator, Grex, or the buyer?
It would be logical for the buyer to bear the shipping costs, unless the seller was feeling magnamamous. ;)
I thought it was mentioned in the Agora auction item that the seller would be responsible.
Yup, we've been saying that the donator will arrange for delivery, unless it's specified otherwise.
out of curiousity, would it be possible to donate animals? (we hink that one of our guiena pigs might be pregnerant....)
um, have you decided how to inform the highest bidder that the item is now theirs? an email message perhaps? my mom keeps asking if she should send in the dollars for the truffles yet and i keep telling her....i don't know!
Rob or I will enter a response in the item. We're a bit behind on pointing out that bidding is slowing down on particular items. Ideally, we should be entering "going, going, gone" type responses so that people don't forget about items they're still interested in.
I'll sweep through the items and note which ones are approaching the finish.
I wouldn't close an item without give at least 24 hours notice.
PS: According to my notes, high bids currently total $432.50.
um, this may be a dumb question, but, it says in item 1 that when the check gets to cyberspace communications, the donor will arrange to deliver what you bought to you...who is supposed to tell the donor when its time to deliver...grex or the buyer? thanx
popcorn or I will send mail to the donor.
And before that, when I get the check, I'll send mail to popcorn and robh.
Total high bids: $535.95
If my notes are not too scrabbled (which they probably are) total high bids now total $707.75
(i know that a hefty chunk of that is mine...sigh..:)
(we thank you for your generousity)
<<factorials notwithstanding ...<g> >> thank you, eeyore.
Current total: $775.26
It's kind of a stretch to get from here to there, but I wonder if we can break $1000. Anybody else out there have something cool to donate?
Rob, I could donate my heart. ;) (this is in response to something you said earlier. The bidding should start at......? ) ;)
You know, we don't have anyone offering a date with themselves. Didn't I read that such a thing was offered on M-Net?
Er, um, I think that's not exactly what we auctioneer types had in mind.
I'd feel especially bad if nobody bid on that item. >8)
Ah. I see your point.
can we pay in cash? i hope so cause my mom wont write checks for me
I'd really rather not have anyone sending cash through the mail. Can you get a money order?
Maybe you should consult with your other auctioneers before saying that, Valerie... Rob suggested I donate myself not just as a date, but as a spouse. "Be Brighn's next spouse" was the offer, I believe. And, um, no, I'm not willing to donate that. =}
