How does one go about finding a publisher for a novel?

I have offered to help a friend's son translate his father's novel from
Serbian, if we can find a publisher.  Are there any in Ann Arbor who might
be interested?  How do we go about looking for one?  I presume it would help
to first translate a chapter.

No Ardis.  Which of the above might I contact?
This would be really important to the writer, who has been unemployed for two
years (mining engineer, no local jobs) and has written several novels.  I
thought the political situation might have generated more than average
interest in anything Serbian.  The novels are not political.

translations of same, but they might be interested

Thanks, I e-mailed them asking for suggestions.  Carl Proffer taught
Russian Lit while I was studying Slavic Linguistics same department.

They said to try Northwest University Publishers and Farrar, neither of which
I could find on the web, and then said to look them up in Writer's Handbook
at Borders.  Will do so after I see the novels in question.  Just what I need
is one more project.  (I still have not updated the last 300 page book I
typed, or put it online.)
