How does one go about finding a publisher for a novel?
7 responses total.
I have offered to help a friend's son translate his father's novel from Serbian, if we can find a publisher. Are there any in Ann Arbor who might be interested? How do we go about looking for one? I presume it would help to first translate a chapter.
Is Ardis Press still there? They might be interested.
Under Publishers-Book the yellow pages lists: AATEC Publications Gale Research Huron Valley (course packs...) Lewis (Chelsea address) Olivia and Hill Personnel Management Abstracts Pierian Press Procor Publications (subsidized, rewriting...) Promotional Perspectives Prote US TSM Prow Press Regnet Hall RObbie Dean (books, multi-cultural and special needs, international journal for teachers of English Writing Skills....) Sleeping Bear Press Star Mountain Press Time One Ink Lts Vantage Press (book manuscripts invited, new authors welcome) Vocal Arts Info Services Wahr George Publishing Inc Winsted Publications No Ardis. Which of the above might I contact? This would be really important to the writer, who has been unemployed for two years (mining engineer, no local jobs) and has written several novels. I thought the political situation might have generated more than average interest in anything Serbian. The novels are not political.
That's because they aren't in AA anymore. Sorry. The editorial office is now at: Ardis Publishers 24721 El Camino Capistrano Dana Point, CA 92629 USA They publish mostly Russian language books and translations of same, but they might be interested in a Serbian work. You might want to browse their web site. http://www.ardisbooks.com
Thanks, I e-mailed them asking for suggestions. Carl Proffer taught Russian Lit while I was studying Slavic Linguistics same department.
You're welcome. Hope they can help.
They said to try Northwest University Publishers and Farrar, neither of which I could find on the web, and then said to look them up in Writer's Handbook at Borders. Will do so after I see the novels in question. Just what I need is one more project. (I still have not updated the last 300 page book I typed, or put it online.)
