Grex Web Item 10: "stealing" a flash file

ok, stealing isnt a fully correct term, but its all i can think of...

is there a way (or a program?)
to save just the .Swf file on a given website, be it a video, a game, 
or a similar file?

i used to know how to do this, but have totally forgotten.

more specfically say im on a site, and theres a Flash file playing a 
funny video, if i wanted that said video for my own use, how can 
i "copy" or "steal" it? and i know i can open the source file up and 
search for it, but thats sometimes easyier said than done.

In firefox/mozilla: right click -> view page info -> media tab

then scroll though and select the "save as" button

Clear your internet cache then launch the page containing the SWF. 
Check your temporary internet files for the big files. Look for the SWF 
extention. Or try adding the SWF to the biggest file. SWF files usually 
carry the extention in cache but FLV files almost never do.

Get a copy of Replay A/V (http://www.applian.com/replay-av/)
they are up to version 8 - I use 7 (still available here 
http://dl.filekicker.com/send/file/187502-1PZ0/RAVSetup731.exe) be sure 
to scan all files for viruses

You can use this program in demo mode for free. Before launching the 
site containing the file you are interested in downloading for fair 
use, launch ReplayAV and select Stream Capture. It will display the URL 
of all media files accessed. You can copy the URL of the file you want 
and past into the browser allowing you to download said file. It's not 
automatic but ReplayAV is a handy tool for the trick bag. Good Luck!
