WELCOME TO THE TUTORING CONFERENCE! This is the new tutoring conference. It was set up with the intent to allow you to get help on specific subjects. Please enter items by subject (i.e. math, english, etc.). Hope you get the answers to your questions!

this is a grate idea. i'm sure i'll be visiting once the school year starts. probably for learning and teaching.
One problem with grate ideas is they don't hold water. ;->.
ah yes, but they sure do smooth the road to knowledge :)
Ok. Time to find a spelling tutor for dang... ;)
coolness! this is going to work! (or am I prematurely optimistic?)
i hope it does. i know i'll be able to use the tutoring sometimes. (scg, i got a dictionary by my computer now, so maybe my spelling will improve. we can hope, at least)
the problem with math is when you fail for the first time it's hard to be on track again.
I generally find that I need to see most math subjects at least twice, three times is better- the first time, I'm entirely at sea. The second time it looks familiar and begins to form patterns. The third time, I have the sense of it well enough to work with the concepts, see where they go and how and why, the implications and uses, etc.-- all that stuff that real mathematicians get the first time through. It's a pity that such repetition requires "failure", rather than being a reasonable learning option. Try not to take it too hard if you need to go back and do something over, although it does mess up the schedule. What area is it that you are in trouble over?
I am really happy to see this. I will be here a lot I hope but not for help though. I think it is a good idea.
It's been *very* quiet here - I guess everyone understands everything this year.

I think so. haven't had time to hop into agora and mention it. after the equinox?...
Tutoring conference now addend to my .cflist. Great idea.
But we need some perns to tutor. Could you round up a few, and deposit them here, with questions? The tutors are getting fanny fatigue..
Hmm... If anyone has a homework question, they can also write me for help. It won't bother me at all.
Are you trying to steal all of our customers? Fie!

May I help you?
I need help, tutoring and whatever. I've been on GREX for about three weeks now, I read "join infor" and gleened some info but I learned just enough to be dangerous. Maybe something in BBS for newuser on all the commands on how to clear up my mistakes and talk to some- one who jumps in or how toget someone in plain words or how to edit my stuff. How to get on the internet. Also explain some ofthe jargon that is used and its meaning. I don't have the foggiest idea of how to download or upload or how I can use Grex to its fullest. This is suposed to be the turoring conference. If your reply takes a couple of pages it may be worth while to someone else besides me. I know there is abunch of newbies out there. With my limited knowledge I showed someone how to get on GREX today. But thats about all. So what ever you can give me I will try; and pass on to the ne xt person and maybe get him tocough up a few bucks for membership. I joined because I thought that if I used it I could help support it. I'll be watching to see who wants to help this poor soul out.
Do you have the brochure, "Take Me to Your Modem"? It describes how to get around in Picospan. Beyond that - you are almost on your own. I could have written what you wrote in #19 2+ years ago. I asked a lot of dumb questions, looked around the system (when I figured out how), looked up key words in the info cf, and asked some more less (perhaps) dumb questions. I finally bought "UNIX for Dummies" - and discovered that it was too elementary for me! What you could do right away is to use lynx - which guides you with hypertext. It would be a *very good thing* to have an organized FAQ (= "frequently asked questions") that goes beyond "Take me to..."...but some volunteer woujld have to write it, and the most knowledgeable volunteers are all up to their eyebrows in system stuff. You might also use "write help" (no quotes), when you have a question urge. There are often (not always) volunteer helpers with their "helper flag" set, and that command starsts a write with them. Just getting answers to some *key* questions often greatly accelerates your own exploration. Finally (for the nonce), try 'find "keyword"' (no single quotes) at an Ok: prompt in the info cf, and start exploring the answers that are already posted.
The info conf may be a hodgepodge at the moment, but it is the exact place for questions like this. I think the idea in tutoring was to help people with academic questions. (homework, studying, etc.)
I thought it was a fair question - even item - for tutoring, considering the state of info. He's studying Grex. But yes, tutoring was created to give "academic" assistance. Anyone need any?
We certainly haven't been overwhelmed with academic questions, lately, so John's question didn't seem out of place to me. I'm with Rane, though, it'd be nice to get some more academic questions, too.
Thanks for the info guys, I went to the library and got "A students guide to UNIX" by Harley Hahn and it helps answer alot of questions that I have. Now all I have to do is read the dad gum thing.

Yes, great. :) Is there any interest in this cf? I personally think that it's a wonderful idea, but it seems not to have taken off.
It needs to be advertised in agora. Users would not normally hang out here, but rather just ask their questions whereever they are. They also will probably not ask this *type* of question elsewhere. So, don't hide your eyes, plagerize - er... advertise.
I am somewhat of an expert in jazz improvization music. I would be pleased to answer any questions relating to especially the emotional side of the music itself or any of its artists you would like to know more about.
I suggest making that announcement in agora, and pointing people to an item you create here on the subject.
Dylan, I like Sidney Beschet. Especially "Blue Horizons." What did he do to obtain such a distinctive sound?
What's the best way to start a church?
I don't know if this question fits here, but you might begin by talking to established groups such as Unity or whatever, that ordain, and seeing what their requirements are. You can either begin by advertizing open services at someone's house or a neutral location, see how many people show up, and write by-laws with the first group that seem committed, or you can begin by getting ordained by *someone*, whether or not it's the tradition you want to follow, and offer your services as a speaker, clerical counselor, for marriages, or whatever, and see if there are people who want what you are offering. Eventually, you will have an established enough population and practice that it will be time to file for tax-free status. That's a lot of work, but not quite as bad as it seems when you first look at the forms. You have to prove that you have a religious and/or educational purpose, that you are definitely not for profit, promise to pass on any existing moneys to an appropriate other non-profit if you disband, lay out your mission statement and types of activities, show a projected budget, and so on. A lot of work, but helpful in getting organized. It's also a good idea to find out what sort of insurance or other legal requirements are put on churches. Oh- and things like a building tend to come last.
Is there a way to automatically get Pine to forward a message to another e-mail address but keep a copy of that message in your in-box? Please e-mail me (flagg@cyberspace.org) with an answer if you have one.
Put the account id in the .forward file. However never send a message *from* that account that bounces, as that will generate a loop that will annoy staff... :).
I hate to be a nuisance, but could you give me a more detailed explanation? Where is the .forward file? Do I have to create it? And what if the e-mail address I want the messages bounced to is not on grex?
Actually, nevermind that, I just figured it out. Thanks for your help. It is much appreciated.
