I spent a significant part of my youth living in the Republic of Panama.
As is often the case with callow youth, when i moved on I wasn't careful to
keep in touch with the people there who meant the most to me when I was
there.  Unfortunately I have lost contact with all of them.  

In te last couple of years I have heard persitant rumours in the media
and throught
 friends of friends that somewhere (either in or around Miami or in CA
 somewhere) there is a group that specializs in putting ex-Canal Zone kids back
 in touch
with each other and organizing class re-unions.  Has anyone here heard
anything about such a group?  Do you have any suggestions for where I might
look for leads?

By the way, at least one friend was already involved with programming and
computers in 1979--so he seems the likeliest to be "findable".

Perhaps you could put a "looking for xx" kind of personal ad in 
alt.personals.  You see those in there once in a while.
