Mary and I have some simultaneous vacation time at the end of February and are looking for someplace warmish to go for 4 or 5 days. We're thinking of the Charleston, S.C. and Savannah, GA areas. Does anybody know what the weather is likely to be there at that time? Can we count on warmth, or should we set our sights farther south?

How deep is the snow in those places now? Well, when we were in Fort Myers between Xmas and New Years, the temperature got down to freezing, and never above 65, and its was mostly cloudy. I suggest you go *further* south, like Jamaica, say.
Or maybe Nassau or elsewhere in the Bahamas.
It doesn't snow in South Carolina. Honest. Well, hardly ever. I'd expect temps this year to range from highs in the upper 50s to lows near freezing. That's just an average, tho.
Two children died in SC a couple of days ago because they were playing on the ice on a lake, and they broke through. South Carolina can be dangerous, too.
Probably not near Charleston or Savannah, though. The climate there is warmer than in the NW corner, near Greenville. My mother grew up in rural SC between COlumbia and Savannah, and only saw snow on the top of Southbound trains. It has snowed in SC on rare occasions, though.
Thanks for the input. Sounds like the weather could be iffy, so we've abandoned our SC/Georgia idea and will head for the Florida Keys instead.
John and Marym are you driving on down?? If so, do plan on making a stop in NC!!
No, we'll be flying. We'll keep a road trip to the Carolinas in mind for some future (and warmer) time, though.
Real Travelers take the bus. The only way to fly! ;)
Quick update: Key West was WONDERFUL! Perfect weather.
I'm planning to go there sometime this year. Any special restaurants, places to see, do, etc?
For lunch, don't miss Pepe's cafe--great burgers & old-time Key West atmosphere. For dinner we liked Cafe Sole (pronounced "So-lay") a lot: food superbly prepared and served in an elegant outdoor setting. There's other good places too--it's hard to go wrong. The Hemingway House tour is worthwhile, especially if you like cats. For schlocky but fun museum fare there's Ripley's Believe It Or Not Odditorium. On the more serious museum side, don't miss the East Martello Museum and Art Gallery, formerly a fort and chock full of interesting exhibits on Key West history. I also enjoyed the tour of Harry Truman's Key West residence. If you're into happy hour type events, take a sunset cruise. There's a lot more--we were there for only four days and just scratched the surface.
