Does anyone have any experiences on the Pacific Crest Trail they would like to share????? I am planning an expedition grade hike of the PCT for a couple of years from now and plan to hike its entire 2587 or so miles from the Mexican-U.S.A. border to the Canadian- U.S.A. border from mid-April to late September of that year. It takes about 5 to 5 1/2 months to do if you stay right at it. Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun! Fun!

You aren't having much luck, are you :)? All I know about the trail is that, when it passes through the mid Sierra Nevada, it is at a relatively low elevation, and not along the crest. But I've never hiked any of it as well as I can recall - at least, not deliberately. I would expect there are books about the trail, though - though you have probably consulted all of those. What I did when I lived in California was undertake weekend and some week-long treks in the High Country, like climbing Mt. Lassen, or circling the Palisades. That's rather different from long-distance trail hiking. I will say that, for summer (usually August) in the high country, we did not carry tents, since it only rained from 4-5 pm (every day.....).
hi! there
Hello, Mohd. Welcome to grex! Are you planning on joining Ernest on the PCT?
[This is now item 42 in the travel conference.]
Recently I read an article in the Washington Post about hiking the Applachian trail from Georgia to Maine. That is my current fantasy. Of course I'd have to take six months off from work, spend all my money and get used to mosquito bites. But it sure sounds like fun!
I've known several people that have done it - two are on the trail now. I've been over a number of pieces of the Appalachian Trail, but never set aside the time to take on the whole thing. (I've slept on Mt. Khatadin, so you might say I've been in at the "finish" :)).
