Ok, what about ghosts? Do you believe in them? can the dead roam the earth? Any eerie experiences to share?

I live in a house that was built over a civil war camp. Among weird noises, weird stuff happens in our house. Like in the entry hall, we have a vase with flowers on a table. Every so often someone gets up in the morning and finds the flowers on the floor, with the vase still standing straight up like normal. It's just my parents and me at home, and none of us picked up the flowers and dropped them (that is what it looks like what happened). WHat gives?

Help me i am in conference hell
It could be unusual drafts, pets, pests, or other "natural" phenomena. Or, you could be haunted.
haunted..<shudder>
Not so, orinoco. We have no pets. We have no psts. And if it were a draft, why wouldn't the vase be knocked over too? I know of someone who was hearing noises in her apartment, alarms were bring tunred off, lights came on for no reason, and in general, weird stuff. She had someone who studied the paranormal check it out. Turns out there was a old man haunting the place, but he was more of a playful spirit. ...Aaaand weird Elvis story: Across from Graceland (E's mansion) is a small house that the owner said had E's ghost. So a radio crew hosted their show from there, and had reporters there to make sure nothing was faked. Another expert was brought in and said it was not E's ghost, but maybe that oof a little girl. Things like toilet lids would crash down, bottles would break, etc. Again, a playful spirit. The radio show cables went down 3 times, for no reason. I dunno, I think tampering with the spirit world can be a little freaky and dangerous.
the vase could be too heavy for the wind to push, I assume that the flowers would be lighter. Of course, I *am* the local disbeliver and devil's advocate, so...
beeswing- have U had a "exspert" check your house out, or is it too minor 4 something like that.
point taken, orinoco... but what it looks like is someone picked the flowers out of the vase (not one or two, but all 20 or so) held them up and dropped them on the floor. The flowers are fake so no water was anywhere. And ther ereally isn't a draft, the vase in on a table in our entry hall, which has a 20 foot ceiling. We have not had anone check out the place. I am not sure how one would contact an expert. Last night, my lamp tunred off by itself. Scared me doodyless.
Who ya gonna call?
Bob.
You *could* try that...
The ghost busters all have ectoplasmic nasal congestion, i'm from the temp agency.
Returning to relevancy here... Were it to be a ghost, what do you think should be done about it?
Beeswing- Who were they previous owners of the house? /
I have a friend who claimed to have a ghost save his life once
really? do tell....
hmm..?
okay, he was going to the bathroom, it was right before an important gymnastics meet. Then he started choking. A guy came in the door and hit his back. He stopped choking in about 3 seconds. He was about to thank the guy. But the guy had left. He went out into the hallway. This door was the only one for about 20 feet. the guy was totally gone. He looked. Nobody could have gotten out that fast. He thinks it was a ghost and even if he had left, my friend would have herd the footsteps
was the door locked, or could a very quiet walker have done it.
He teleported from another dimension! Or maybe not...
well, depending on whether or not you think ghosts are Aethereal/immaterial...
I think that ghosts are just there. If they want to be aethereal one day, then they can be aethereal. Immaterial the next, why not? Its their choice. But thats just my opinion, I could be wrong...
It would still be nice to know if the door was locked...
no the door wasn't locked

o yeah, what happened with that?
look, i know this will be tough. but have you tried sitting there alone - for once ? JUst sit there - maybe with a book and try to concentrate. if you are really interested, you'll know for sure. if there is a ghost, you can meet it. if there is'nt you wont be afraid anymore. worst thing about life is the fear of pain and death. if we transcend the two we can learn a lot more. remember this. the height of pleasure is also pain. and all those born must die. so cast out fear and develop that urge to know. let knowledge be your light. sorry if i sounded like a pastor. but i sincerely felt you were scared.
True you can get farther without nasty little naggings about pain and death. I know from experience. I'm not scared of death, and though I'm still slightly scared of pain, it is a lesser fear then it used to be... And since I have elimated or reduced those fears, I have gotten much done with my mental and physical Progresssion
Snafu--as much as you may belive otherwise, you *are* afraid of death, as is everyone else. You may not be constantly worried about it, or paranoid that you are going to be killed, but you are afraid of death. Nobody can free themself of something that basic.
Listen, Snafu - Ori's right ! I am not afraid to admit there are moments when I too succumb to those basic instincts. But lets not fool ourselves into believing everything is hunky dory. As a kid i used to shy away from anything that is even remotely associated with pain or extremes. why ? you know it now just as i do. but not anymore. i'm happier now. it also helps to have a clear perspective. i too need to be reminded at times and that's when i expect you to tell me in no uncertain terms !!!
