this is a test

<you know, I've got the funny feeling I've seen this sort of item
before....but I just can't think where...>

#5 of 20 by remmers on Fri Feb 21 10:54:51 1997:

Must've been agora or coop.

#6 of 20 by lee on Sat Feb 22 02:39:45 1997:

this item doesn't appear to be linked...

#7 of 20 by remmers on Sat Feb 22 13:33:23 1997:

How can we test this?

#8 of 20 by lee on Sat Feb 22 22:53:43 1997:

Polling everyone who reads any conferences and asking if they've seen this
item.
Or just taking a sample and doing some statisical analysis.

#9 of 20 by remmers on Sun Feb 23 04:07:45 1997:

It's easiest to sample no data and test the null hypothesis on
it. The results are bound to beInterrupt!

#10 of 20 by lee on Sun Feb 23 22:18:38 1997:

"beInterrupt!"?
<lee scratches her head and wonders about life and the universe and the sense
of that last response>

<lee is actually several "hers" as four sisters have the password to this
account>

I doubt your assumption (that the reason more women aren't on Grex walks
is because the are scared of computers or don't find them useful in their
lives) is accurate.

I'd start with how women have less leisure time than men, on average, and
what little they have is spent very carefully. I know of my outside
interests, if push came to shove, Grex would go first.

Well, most of the people I know with far too much time on their hands are
male...

#19 of 20 by lee on Wed Feb 26 04:48:32 1997:

Well maybe all the people seen goofing off are men... I'm included to
think it's a more generational thing, there are women using computers
and such, but a generation ago, it was almost unheard of. I know my
mother is wary of computers but all of us sisters (who are all, btw,
under 25) don't have a problem sitting in front of a computer and
pressing keys to see what happens, even though none of us have any
formal computer training.

#20 of 20 by orinoco on Sun Mar 2 23:05:19 1997:

The gender gap for computer *users* seems to be leveling out, but most of the
frightening obsessive geeks are still male...our gender seems to be cursed.
