If you go over the 256 character buffer in this editor, it locks up on you.
The only way out is <del>

Aha...ctrl-H also saves the day...
Huh...
maybe I should have figured these things out by now...
It should beep at you if you exceed 256 characters -- erase or kill will allow you to back up a bit. If you selected the Cshell, you can also use ^W to erase back one word.
No beep...
Are you sure your terminal makes noise? It beeps just fine for me... 256 characters is 3 lines (@ 80 chars each) + 16 characters more. I suppose it might only beep with the new tty driver.

<beep beep!>
I just tried it -- remmers, popcorn, and myself all have "csh" as our shell, so we are all using the new tty driver, which indeed beeps as advertised. bad is using "sh" for his shell, which means he's using the old tty driver, which means it doesn't beep for him. Actually, the old tty driver under 4.2bsd+ is just the new tty driver with certain features disabled (such as job control, and beeping at the end of the line), which means it should still not randomly discard input after 256 characters of input like the Altos did.
I'm antiquated
WHAT"S THE POINT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
My goodness, that responses resurrected a bit of history. All the responses before #11 are from June and July 1991, before Grex opened to the public. The point was that we were testing out the system, figuring out how things worked.
when'd grex open to the public then?

re 14 IS THAT GreX's B-DAY?
Believe so. The grex birthday partie picnics are always held on or about July 18, aren't they?
W0w. Golly.
Picnics are always on a Sunday, mid to late July, timed to be close to the anniversary of Grex going public.
