Hi, all. I'm getting married in a few months and am looking for a legally ordained minister of some pagan church or other. Does anyone know of anyone?
20 responses total.
Fox is. Not Wiccan, though- Druidic. Both Brighn and Valerie are. John Morris is. want more info? Congrats and good luck, how do the boys feel about it?
Legally ordained? How many months do I have to apply for ordainment? :)
Both of the guys are OK with it. Corey perhaps more so than TJ, because TJ and Larry aren't all that close. Then again TJ's busy putting distance between himself and all of us. <sigh> Hmmm, well since I'm not Wiccan per se, I don't need a wiccan "minister". Thanks, Kami.
Ordained folks I know of in the state of Michigan: Fox (aka Rev. John Adelman) Brighn (aka Rev. Paul Kershaw) Rev. Valerie Hartzer Rev. John Morris Nike (aka Rev. Kelly Weaver) um... I think that's it for Southeastern Michigan. I'm always willing to do weddings. (I should've said oradained Pagan folks...) Selena love, to be ordained you need a church or a congregation. In the State of Michigan, you need three people to form a church. Hey... wait a second.. *giggle*
Hmm, I know all of them except Nike. brighn and I must hang out in the same circles. Literally. >8) Three people to form a church? "First Pagan Church of Grex" anybody?
That and $10, or something, plus annual reports (which have a $10 fee or so)
Very Interesting - but I got college to worry about.
OK, Rob, what would be the "creed" or "mission" of the First Pagan Church of Grex? "Let's get together"? <giggle>
That would be a good start. >8)
I'll second that emotion!
I didn't know there *was* such a thing as a "legally ordained Pagan minister". So that means for a handfasting to be a legal marriage, it has to be done by an ordained Pagan priest? Eep! I was just planning on asking my favorite shaman to perform mine.
Unless it's either a Justice of the Peace or a legally ordained minister, they can't sign a State of Michigan Marriage License. Sucks, don't it, Sarah? OF course, anyone can perform the ceremony, the State just won't recognize it. (there's something called a lay clergy license, by the way, which is what Fox has... when he performed his first legal handfasting, he wasn't in the position to be ordained by ADF and had to apply to the State for a lay clergy license, petitioning that since he had a congregation, he should have the right to marry and bury them (tacky clergy parlance I picked up from my U-Methodist minister father)... the rest of the people on that list have ordinations through recognized churches. John's is through the UUs, Nike's through, ummmm... CAW, I *think*, and Val and I are through SOTSM, Sanctuary of the Silver Moon, the only Earth Spirituality church recognized by the State of Michigan, last I heard, though they are a couple others trying for State recognition... and if your Shaman is recognized by the Native Americans, the credentials can be transferred to the State... I'd forgottenthat Chris Loughlin (grex login Vampyre, also known as Catdance) has NA clergy rights, which would transfer to the State if he got the right paperwork...)
re: # 12- no, Fox is legally ordained through ADF as of Wellspring, last May-- it was part of his 3rd circle initiation/ordination ritual. He's legal. Didn't know about Catdance's credentials. Thanks.
O.k. =} When he married Johnna and Gwydion, though, it was based on lay clergy... I'd assumed he'd gotten full ADF blessing with 3rd circle, but wasn't sure.
Bjorn wishes he had benn born 500 years ago, or that he lived in Island (Iceland) so that he could learn/be a Volsung priest - the right way . . .
Thanks for the info, Brighn...and yes, it does suck. =(
Thanks for the information, everyone ... I think I have it narrowed down.
Super! Now for the hard part- not the wedding, the marriage <g>
Indeed. This will be my second marriage -- I wasn't even neervous going into the first one. This time I'm about equal parts thrilled and scared. I guess it goes to show you I now have some perpe\spective on what I'm getting into. <grin>
That sounds more promising...<g>
