You mean, besiddes also severing the spinal cord by chopping of the head
and filling the mouth with garlic?

#7 of 153 by kami on Wed Jan 4 18:11:08 1995:

re: #2- I declare this item undead!

Say, shall we stick to fantasy, or shade over into the realm of paranoia:
psychic vampires and silliness like that?

#8 of 153 by brighn on Wed Jan 4 18:36:42 1995:

Now, pwychic vampirism, there's a more appropriate topic for this
conference.

We met a pair of psychic vampires in Elias Bros. once... not a plesant
experience at all!

#9 of 153 by gerund on Wed Jan 4 19:17:47 1995:

please do inform.

as for BLOOD vampYres....
they probably don't exisats, although i don't
rule out anything i haven't experienced

#10 of 153 by brighn on Wed Jan 4 22:08:14 1995:

By my estimation, a psychic vampire is someone who, deliberately or not,
sucks energy off of another's aura. I've met vampires who suck off negative
energy, which is an infringement upon my personal space, but can be helpful.
The temporary loss of the negative energy, without anything to replace it,
though, is outweighed by the increase in someone else's negative energy.
More dangerous, though, are the people who suck off positive energy.
I met a person in Elias Bros. once who I swear had no aura at all to speak of;
I don't know if it was just that deeply hidden, or if it was gone, but it
was clear that she wanted a new one, and mine would do fine. Forget for
the moment that *I* needed it, and it didn't fit her anyway. She had an
acquaintance who was not nearly so bad. They were trying to witness
Christianity to me, and while I geenrally have no problem at all with Xians,
these two gave me the willies big time. I pulled outwhatever defences I could,
which wound up being hysterical laughter, which was rude as hell but blocked
the vampirism. I don't even think she was aware that she was doing it.

#11 of 153 by val on Wed Jan 4 23:00:03 1995:

i have met one person who is a total energy sink. i don't know if its
vampirism, but even if i'm in hte most hyper mood before i see him i end
up tired when he leaves.

#12 of 153 by vampyre on Thu Jan 5 04:21:51 1995:

i can feed off peoples ecsess energy if i want to but i rarly bother as i have
to much of my own and only then with permision...
no to stake a vampire the stake must first be oak and nailed through the
vampires heart and into the ground this does not kill them simply pins them to
the ground. as they have to have some one else remove the stake.

and trust me gerund blood drink vampyre do exist. tho mostly its not the blood
but a quilty of testosterone or estragen there after and this can be bleed out
through the aura and the other part is expitated through raw good old fashi
se and sexualty. youll never find a ranchyer bunch then the vampyres. corse
there just is no geting around the fact that blood tasts good. you have to
learn to do with out or make the right deals with willing peoples.

#13 of 153 by cyberpnk on Thu Jan 5 17:49:03 1995:

There are people today that have made claims to vampire powers; whether or
not they're true I don't know. But there is precedent for actual blood
drinking. There is a blood disease called poryphia, where the corpuscles
break down faster than normal. I don't know what the modern treatment for
it is, but in ancient times, the only way to treat it was to drink human blood.
Poryphia also carries with it an aversion to garlic <which would make the
blood break down faster in poryphia sufferers>, an aversion to sunlight, and
in some cases, the gums pull back, making the person look as if they had fangs.

One of the best books on the subject is 'Vampires Among Us' by Rosemary
Eileen Guiley.

And as for the stake bit: In Stoker's novel it's enough, but in the Anne
Rice novels as well as the Vampire RPG, you have to burn the body as well.

#14 of 153 by brighn on Thu Jan 5 22:00:10 1995:

It's actual porphyria.

#15 of 153 by phaedrus on Fri Jan 6 17:34:31 1995:

I don't know if "vampyre" is putting out flame bait or if that's for real.
I have also met people that seem to leach my life away, you know the type
black holes of neediness. But I've never had anyone acctually "drain"
me, I guess to my knowledge. (Reminds of a Kids in the Hall skit:)
Anyway, I think it's an interesting thing to believe, maybe like believing
in other Mythical beings. Who knows?!?
People that claim great power are ussually full of it!
"Those who talk don't know, and those who know don't talk."

#16 of 153 by borogove on Fri Jan 6 20:33:26 1995:

I don't know about the truth or not of this idea of psychic vampires,
which is odd, considering that I was informed some years ago that I *am*
one, and according to the guy who told me, quite a good one as well. I'm
careful about believing it because I'm just a fantasist at heart, and I'm
perfectly aware that a part of me *wants* it to be true. All I know is
that I am usually lethargic away from people, and the longer I spend in
the company of a small number of people, the more engergetic I get and
the tireder those around me get. This could just be that I'm a really
tedious person 8).

If it is possible to "drain" a person, it could explain a few things -
we all hear about (or even have) those old, incredibly grouchy relatives
who just *refuse* to die, and their relatives always come away from
visiting them feeling physically drained...

As for porphyria, I thought the victims drank blood because it eased
the pain in their gums?

#17 of 153 by cyberpnk on Sat Jan 7 19:16:55 1995:

Mabye, I don't know. but it DID help to replace the lost blood.

#18 of 153 by orinoco on Sun Jan 8 20:50:28 1995:

That's like they belive that the ancient "witches" had inadvertently consumed
some hallucinogenic substance.

#19 of 153 by cyberpnk on Mon Jan 9 20:37:25 1995:

In some cases they DID, that's what gave them the visions of flying.
