I'm told that I have some Native American ancestry from my
Quebecois relatives, so I've always had an interest, but
I've never done anything with it.

#2 of 37 by gerund on Fri Nov 25 17:27:39 1994:

Info, i want info. I'm part Cheroke, and I'm very interested in this.
Unfortunately I don't have any info, or ideas about how exactly to gain
info. any ideas?

I've done a couple of sweat lodges. One was with a Native American
teacher here in Ann Arbor, alas it was a couple of years ago and I don't
remember his name offhand. I would be interewsted in recieving e-mail
about Native American religious practices going on localy.

#4 of 37 by eeyore on Thu Dec 1 15:26:00 1994:

i'm interested.

i'm not realted at all...i'm pure bred eurpeon mutt

#5 of 37 by gerund on Thu Dec 1 17:28:33 1994:

Better than being pure melting pot, i think.

#6 of 37 by twolf on Sat Dec 3 03:13:33 1994:

Well I'm a euro-mutt myself, heavy on the Brito-Celtic isles.
I don't have first hand info, but an inlaw of mine is an anthropologest.
How do I state this delacately, authentic Native American mystical
proctioners aren't anymore free of politicing then any other religious
tradition. I really with it were otherwise, and I in no way wish to
discourage any one from studying these beliefs. I just thought this
was worth stating and keeping in mind.
On the other hand , I am interested in hearing no about these beliefs. The nat
Native American group has always been interesting to me, but I must admit I
don't know much about the differences from tribe to tribe.

#7 of 37 by eeyore on Sun Dec 4 06:20:01 1994:

i dounderstand all of that...nothing is free from polotics, i'm afraid...:(

#8 of 37 by twolf on Sun Dec 4 19:24:00 1994:

it really is too bad, spiritual searching would be one place every one could
benifit from politicing stopping, but I degress. I realy would love to read any
information any one has to share on the original subj'ect!

oh dear

#20 of 37 by kami on Wed Dec 14 05:20:33 1994:

Chris, to start an item, type "enter" at an ok: prompt, write what you
have to say, that is, what the item is about and how you'd like it handled,
then type a . on its own line. You will be asked for a title. Would you
please start an item about Native American Spirituality? Thanks, dear.
Oh, try !help edit or !help pico at an ok: prompt to find out about a
full-screen editor to get rid of the typos and let you think things out.

I'd like to hear more about the ritual you're working on. When will it be?
Where? Is it a place where you have a strong connection to the land? If
so, how do you build that into the work?

#21 of 37 by gerund on Wed Dec 14 06:10:55 1994:

Just a note... I believe he needs to type the help commands w/o
the ! in front of them. they are picospan commands, not
unix commands.

#22 of 37 by kami on Wed Dec 14 07:14:07 1994:

oops, sorry. advice from the semi-computer literate is often a bit off.

#23 of 37 by eeyore on Wed Dec 14 16:02:04 1994:

i can understand that...considering how often i give bad computer advice....

#24 of 37 by anne on Wed Dec 14 16:22:32 1994:

We have digressed from Laughing Bear's original topic, eh?

#33 of 37 by otterwmn on Wed Jan 18 00:30:03 1995:

Gerund! We meet again! If you want to talk about this topic, e-mail me. I know
a Shaman or two, and am studying healing medicine myself. Don't hesitate to
ask for anything. otterwmn@cyberspace.org

#34 of 37 by mta on Mon Apr 8 00:10:29 1996:

Not to wake a long sleeping topic or anything, but...
Does anyone know what tribe originally lived in the area around what is now
Saline, Michigan? Does anyone know anything about ther spiritual practices?

Hey, Rob, maybe we're related! I'm 25% mohawk from the Quebecois side of
my family. (My mother's a Durocher/Gagne.

#35 of 37 by robh on Mon Apr 8 00:38:23 1996:

Probably the Potawatamie, they were all over the Huron Valley area.

#36 of 37 by mta on Mon Apr 8 01:12:20 1996:

Ah, OK. That will help a lot in my research. Thanks, Rob.

#37 of 37 by birdlady on Mon Apr 8 18:38:15 1996:

Speaking of Laughing Bear...what the hell happened to James? He just
dropped off of Grex's cliff all of a sudden. Do you know if he plans on
coming back, Kae?
