Grex Synthesis Item 51: A bit about Qabalah h
Entered by kami on Thu Aug 25 05:45:06 UTC 1994:

OK, this is the long awaited item on the Cabalistic Tree of Life and some
of its associations. I'm no expert, so I'm hoping lots of more experienced
people will chime in (Robh?). The first response or so ought to be the
diagram, so we have a visual aid to work with. It has been said that the
"tree" itself stands alone, as an inspired vision to which people have
added interpretations and other language over time.

#2 of 19 by arwen on Thu Aug 25 18:23:36 1994:

What is the beginning point?

#3 of 19 by robh on Thu Aug 25 21:50:43 1994:

Uh, Kami, I don't have a diagram of the Itz Chai'im available,
do you?

#4 of 19 by brighn on Thu Aug 25 22:25:17 1994:

The beginning point is the place to start.

Is that that tree thing? If so, I have one.

#6 of 19 by orinoco on Fri Aug 26 18:14:25 1994:

WHAT DER HEY IS QABBALAH H?

#7 of 19 by arwen on Fri Aug 26 22:06:18 1994:

As far as I know...it is a Jewish mysticism form. The Tree of Life
is another name I am familiar with. There are ten(?) spots (circles?)
and various paths to get to each circle. I do not know what the (sorry)
represent. I believe it is a metaphorical representation of the choices we
make in life.

How am I doing?

#8 of 19 by brighn on Fri Aug 26 23:29:40 1994:

fine Arwen, but what does the H mean?
(:-)

#9 of 19 by arwen on Sat Aug 27 15:07:36 1994:

You lost me on that one, darling.
Clue me in!

#10 of 19 by brighn on Sat Aug 27 16:33:10 1994:

The title of this item is A bit about Qabalah h)

#11 of 19 by arwen on Sat Aug 27 16:39:54 1994:

Oh.../rotfl I didn't catch that!
the h is about Kami's fingers or gareth's

#12 of 19 by robh on Sat Aug 27 18:18:42 1994:

Well, you know, there are parts of the Tree of Life which
look like an H... But now I'm getting silly.

Since Kami doesn't seem to be doing anything in her own item -
something I'll have to bop her on the head for - I downloaded
some text files on Qabalism and put them in my temp directory.
You can "more" any of these from an Ok: or Unix prompt:

        /tmp/robh/cabala.int
        /tmp/robh/cabalah.cln
        /tmp/robh/kabalah.ch

#13 of 19 by kami on Sun Aug 28 05:31:50 1994:

sorry, I haven't been able to log in for a few days. life called. why not
copy the text files (or relevant parts thereof) here?

#14 of 19 by kami on Sun Aug 28 05:40:12 1994:

ok, I looked at "/tmp/robh/cabala.int" and "/tmp/robh/cabalah.cln". The
first one was too dense, obscure and confusing to make sense of unless you
are a rabbi. The second is one of the clearest, most comprehensive and
interesting hisories and explanations of Cabala and the Tree of LIfe in
particular that I've seen anywhere. Can you either send it to me or
post it here? Or will it be around long enough to look at a number of times?

#15 of 19 by robh on Sun Aug 28 18:59:50 1994:

It's a file, Kami, you can copy it to your directory or mail it
to yourself (mail kami < /tmp/robh/cabalah.cln) or whatever. They'll
be in that directory for a while, at least until the staff decides
to clean the place out.

I think I'll go delete that first one, even I don't like it, and
I'll read any old thing about the Tree. >8)

or you can do what I did !sz /tmp/robh/cabalah.cln and download it to your
self...

#17 of 19 by robh on Tue Aug 30 20:12:12 1994:

But only if you can get Z-Modem to work... >8)

#18 of 19 by bnm on Tue Aug 30 22:32:24 1994:

Or XMODEM (sx instead of sz, I believe they're actually linked
to the same program, but it switches on argv[0]). Oops, I lapsed
into techno-nerd. Sorry!

#19 of 19 by canis on Tue Aug 30 23:52:55 1994:

good for me I have zmodem .... anyways back to the subject, what is it about
Qabalah, I have yet to read the files....
