Grex Synthesis Item 48: help!
Entered by vishnu on Sun Aug 14 07:49:36 UTC 1994:

Being quite bad at interpretation, and seeing that
I can't find the tarot deck item, I was wondering
if someone could interpret from a deck that I have
I guess I'd just 'deal' out the cards and ask...
um, I guess i'll do them in a circular formation
with ... uh, how many cards should I use? Oh
great, now I can't find my deck... er..
um.

I personally like to plan my spreads out before dealing anything.

That said, I guess we can make this the Tarot discussion item.

#2 of 32 by brighn on Mon Aug 15 22:32:30 1994:

Use ten cards in a circular fashion. Your deck is under the sofa. The cat has
eaten the Death card, so now you can never change. :-)

#3 of 32 by arwen on Mon Aug 15 23:57:21 1994:

Why not try a different form of divination?

#4 of 32 by dang on Tue Aug 16 00:57:00 1994:

well, i don't have any runes, and haven't heard of anything else.
however, i do have my tarot handy, so...here we go. th cards were taken
off the top of the deck, and laid starting at the top and proceeding
clockwise. they ended up something like this.

                        seeker

        prince pentacles four wands
         (inverted)

prince wands four cups
 (inverted) (inverted)

eight cups king wands
 (inverted)

        wheel of fortun ten wands
         (inverted) (inverted)

                eight pentacles

there it is. have at it.

Oh my god! Burn the deck! It's possessed!
No, seriously, someone else do it.

#6 of 32 by arwen on Tue Aug 16 12:48:01 1994:

My first impulse is that this concerns something mental. Other people
are going to help or distract you. I am no good at Tarot.
Anybody else?

#7 of 32 by brighn on Tue Aug 16 14:55:56 1994:

Gee, Arwen, maybe I'm the one who's trying to distract?

#8 of 32 by arwen on Tue Aug 16 15:04:09 1994:

shoo...go away...shoo

#9 of 32 by kami on Tue Aug 16 16:33:34 1994:

Not mental, perhaps, but spiritual? Looking for a path, in need of better
balance/grounding, but a fairly clear idea of his own will. Needs to be mor
open to aspects of water: vision/intuition and emotional responses. Hm, why
would the 8 of pantacles be the anchoring/ opposite the person card?

#10 of 32 by arwen on Tue Aug 16 18:16:25 1994:

Maybe a gift to help?

#11 of 32 by dang on Sun Aug 21 18:17:23 1994:

um... i'm sorta lost. could you explain after you're done discussing?

#12 of 32 by jkrauss on Wed Aug 24 21:30:22 1994:

Divining... hmm...
i don't get it!

#13 of 32 by arwen on Thu Aug 25 00:35:51 1994:

Exactly what do you not get, jon?
I do other types of divination such as rune stones and
I Ching.

#14 of 32 by kami on Thu Aug 25 05:33:32 1994:

Dang, you showed us a reading which you wanted interpreted, right? Well,
Arwen gave you her imediate reaction- the general topic or scope or the
reading. Then I looked at the cards for relationships between them,
balances or things that seemed emphasized (which is what I do in any reading)
and read what made sense to me. The card at the bottom of the circle
seemed to be equivalent, in some ways, to the crossing card in the old
"Celtic cross" spread, that is both emphasizing and opposing the starting
(ah, "card" sigh.) The top card generally represents the person about whom
the reading is being done, or there current position. I think response
#10 was Arwen's input to my confusion about that card.

re: #13- I haven't made any sense of the I Ching, but I am learning to
use rune sticks (similar but different...), want to learn to use the
Ogham (see related item- might have been my notes from Etheracon), and
sometimes don't use any tool at all; just say what I "see".

#15 of 32 by phaedrus on Thu Aug 25 12:24:20 1994:

The I Ching is another Rob specialty, though I suspect he wont like me
telling anyone this!

#16 of 32 by arwen on Thu Aug 25 17:50:06 1994:

I Ching is basically like asking your mother for advice.
Lengthy, in-depth and obscure as hell!

#17 of 32 by robh on Thu Aug 25 21:49:35 1994:

Shhh, don't tell them, they'll start pestering me to enter
an item... >8)

#18 of 32 by dang on Fri Aug 26 00:50:06 1994:

Hey Rob, old buddy old pal! How about an item? (:))

#19 of 32 by bach on Fri Aug 26 19:06:02 1994:

This is actually arwen using bach's log-in because I am too
lazy to log him off and log me on. I will enter a I Ching item
since it is the one I use the most. There Rob....aren't
you happy?

#20 of 32 by arwen on Fri Aug 26 22:03:46 1994:

Just so you know that really was me! I will do a I Ching (yee jing)
item...probably tomorrow when I can grab my book.

Soon Arwen. . .anybody want to comment on the validity of palm reading?
Curiosity of course.

#22 of 32 by arwen on Sat Aug 27 15:06:49 1994:

Bhell! There is an awesome palmist at the Ren faire.
Her name is Denzil Sol and she is a freind of mine/
I think her readings are 25 but I am not sure.

#23 of 32 by arwen on Sat Aug 27 15:48:11 1994:

I suppose that means that I think that palmistry is valed
or valid I meant...I would like to interject here that many
people are out to make a buck. Do not let yourself get
trapped into a scenario where someone tells you that you
have a dark cloud hanging over you and for $XXX they can
remove it. It is an endless loop. Keep all three of your
eyes open!

#24 of 32 by bhelliom on Sat Aug 27 19:36:25 1994:

I don't necessarily want to go for regular palm readings. It's just that a
friend and I were discussing it, and I knew this would be the prfect place to
open up an intelligent dialogue.

#25 of 32 by kami on Sun Aug 28 05:29:12 1994:

it's useful. it's not comprehensive. good point about scams. I like to
chat with the various "soothsayers" while they aren' working ,but not to
spend money on what I can get for free at home.
I rather like response #16...:)

#26 of 32 by arwen on Mon Aug 29 02:14:20 1994:

RE:16...thank you Kami!
I know of someone who believed the scenario in 23 and spent alot
a lot! of money If it doesn't *feel* right...skip it!
Words to live by in any aspect of your life. Just because
I might make a good teacher doesn't mean I would make anyone a
good teacher! Teachers must be students must be teachers.....

#27 of 32 by dang on Mon Sep 26 01:15:09 1994:

Well, I'm back with another series of readings. I took the advice of
someone on this cf, and tried to do one short reading a day. Here is the
ones for the past month. I'm sorry to say that I wasn't able to do it
every day, but here are the ones I did do. Enjoy! :)

        Body Mind Spirit

        3 cups world (in) devil(in)

9 wands (in) empress (in) judgement (in)

page wands (in) world page swords (in)

        page swords 5 swords moon

9 wands magician (in) 3 wands

High Priest(in) 8 swords (in) empress (in)

10 cups (in) king pent (in) wheel of fortune (in)

        star chariot page pent

5 pent (in) king wands (in) 10 wands (in)

High Priest Justice (in) page swords

        High Priestess(in) Tower 4 wands

2 pent (in) 9 swords (in) 7 swords (in)

7 swords 10 pent (in) ace swords

king swords(in) High Priestess(in) page pent (in)

10 cups (in) 3 wands (in) strength

        Queen cups Hermit ace cups

There it is. "(in)" means inverted. Have fun all!

#28 of 32 by cyberpnk on Mon Sep 26 16:13:45 1994:

I use the runes and Tarot when reading, and I am fairly accurate when reading
for others. When i read for myself, the readings make no sense. Can anyone tell
me why?

#29 of 32 by brighn on Mon Sep 26 16:33:25 1994:

Maybe you're too close to the question. I've heard other people say that.
While I usually do pretty good readings for myself, I do even better ones for
other people. OTOH, there are some questions that need the extra subjectivity
of a self-reading.

#30 of 32 by eeyore on Tue Oct 25 17:10:38 1994:

i find that i do better readings formyself.

is there any chance someone could give me a listing of runes and what
they mean? i have been thinking about making myself a set, but if i
don't know what they mean....

so far, the deck i primarily use is not a tarot deck, but a fortune-
telling deck. I LOVE IT!!!!!! it responds so nicely!
i have another deck that i want to get into, but i have not
had the time or energy to deal with it, but i think i will soon.

#31 of 32 by kami on Tue Oct 25 17:22:41 1994:

Eeyore, I can give you some stuff on runes when we get together in a few
weeks, or bring my notes to the walk on Sat., but I think there's also
an item on runes somewhere in theis conf. They are fun. Sometimes it's
cool to do a tarot reading and then a rune casting on the same topic.

That Russian deck is really cool!

#32 of 32 by eeyore on Tue Oct 25 17:37:00 1994:

i'm rather fond of it myself....:)

please do bring it on sat....i wanna get started as soon as possible!
