Grex Synthesis Item 47: minerals, crystals, etc.
Entered by brenda on Wed Aug 10 01:29:34 UTC 1994:

While I was driving yesterday, I thought of a question. This may be
simplistic, but I'm curious anyhow.

There is a lot of talk about affinities for certain stones, metals, etc.

I have certain types of things I like, such as cut crystal and pewter.
I don't know if I'd say I had an "affinity" for it, as I don't use it
for anything in particular, except I really like to look at it and hold it.

I don't know how much any of the "new age" or "paranormal" stuff applies
to me directly, as I sort of believe it, but couldn't ever picture
myself practicing any of it.

But back to the question: from the point of view of people who DO
use crystals, minerals, etc. would these intense preferences for
certain materials (used in decorative items) have any particular
significance?

Sorry to be a bit wordy, but I wanted to make sure I had the question
asked correctly.

Welcome, Brenda.
Only one person's opinion, but certainly, your body/mind (or whatever) knows
what you need, or what works for you. It might be that you tend to need the
grounding or insulating ("sound"proofing?) effect of the lead in pewter and
cut crystal. I sometimes find those materials almost physically uncomfortable
if I'm doing intense magical work, since they do not transmit a strong, steady
flow of energy. As to "significance", dunno- in what way? Personal: of
course, but hard for anyone else to state for SURE what it is. Cosmic: I
don't think so, but I'm rather a pragmatist.
Anyone else?
(Arwen might have some interesting notions when she gets back.)

i guess i'll add my question to the rest. i tend to alternate between not
wearing/liking anything, and gold, and silver. (not at the same time,
sometimes gold, sometimes silver, usually with a period of nothing
between.) also, i often like shaped pewter. what are the characterisics
of these, and why the periods of liking none? (they are not quite periods
of aversion, but more periods when wearing/holding/being around these
ornaments doesn't occure to me.) also, i am constantly in the company of
some type of computerized object. (even my watch is one.) does this mean
i have an affinity to silicone? <G>

hmm...

#4 of 109 by arwen on Mon Aug 15 23:56:19 1994:

Um...gee, thanks Kami! <g> I think that metals help conduct energy
and silver is goddess oriented and gold is god oriented. Copper is also
a favorite of the god. I am not thinking clearly so I will try to
add more on this later. Hi Brenda!

#5 of 109 by kami on Tue Aug 16 16:29:56 1994:

I find silver restful, and like copper because I'm an energy junky. Gold is a
bit heavy and inert for me oftentimes, although I did have a ring I used as
a sort of long-term battery or storage of memories/focus.

#6 of 109 by arwen on Tue Aug 16 18:15:54 1994:

I find silver energizing and gold just doesn't feel right. I am not a sun
person at all and get most of my revving up from the moon.
Kami, art thou a sun goddess? <G>

#7 of 109 by loupgaru on Wed Aug 17 17:49:48 1994:

If I can't afford silver or gold will plated do?

#8 of 109 by arwen on Wed Aug 17 18:12:34 1994:

Absolutely!

#9 of 109 by fireball on Thu Aug 18 15:44:05 1994:

I had any idea for a ring that I will prob. eventually make (when I get the
&&& for material). It's rather simply...it is a braid of three
different metlas...I don't remember HOW the idea came to me...but the
logic that I remember (and thefact that I can't forget it) seem to
tell that maybe I DIDN'T think of it (if ya' knowhutImean)
anywho the three metals are 1) gold 2) silver 3)iron
weird, ne?

#10 of 109 by arwen on Thu Aug 18 16:54:19 1994:

Not weird. Gold=sun Silver=moon Iron=stars(meteorites)
Very interseting!

#11 of 109 by brenda on Thu Aug 18 20:16:50 1994:

i have a ring that's copper, brass, and sterling silver. I used to
wear it all the time, but the copper turns my finger green :(

#12 of 109 by arwen on Fri Aug 19 23:06:46 1994:

Brenda, try painting the side that touches your finger with clear
nail polish. Works like a *ahem* charm! <giggle>

#13 of 109 by brighn on Sat Aug 20 00:23:45 1994:

<brighn calls for the pun police>

#14 of 109 by dang on Sun Aug 21 18:15:14 1994:

weeeeeeooooooooweeeeeeeeooooooooweeeeeeeoooooooo
someone called the pun police?

#15 of 109 by arwen on Sun Aug 21 18:53:38 1994:

Yes sir...my twin did. He feels that my entry of 8-19-94 19:06
violates the Pun Code as estqablished under Article 33, section 9
chapter 5 verse 7 words 6through 67

#16 of 109 by kami on Mon Aug 22 19:47:38 1994:

Pun tax, pun tax!!!

I like that, Jeremy. Hm, another interpretation might be
gold= outflowing, silver=inward, iron=ground

or, gold=gods silver=other "critters" (spirits, elves, whatever) iron=human

Arwen, I don't think you can call someone who is rather heat intolerant a
sun goddess... I rather prefer moonlight. I just happen to be a bit of an
energy junky, and copper (like amber) carries a hell of a charge.

#17 of 109 by arwen on Mon Aug 22 21:40:26 1994:

Ok, sugar...I will accept energy junky! :->

#18 of 109 by kami on Mon Aug 22 23:05:40 1994:

no 12 step program? no zinc as a methadone equivalent? What a relief <g>

#19 of 109 by arwen on Mon Aug 22 23:14:04 1994:

I prefer the 12 step -10 program.....
that way you get to do the two-step
<arwen ducks from the expected onslaught of pun police calls>

#20 of 109 by brenda on Tue Aug 23 00:24:55 1994:

curiouser and curiouser (as Alice said). I'm gettng very interested in
the different aspects of metals and gems. would anyone be willing
to talk to me via email or ytalk? I'd be intersted in having some
of my own prefernces explained to me.

thanks

#21 of 109 by arwen on Tue Aug 23 01:27:21 1994:

e-mail me at your own risk!!! I will always respond :->

#28 of 109 by canis on Wed Aug 24 01:26:08 1994:

#29 of 109 by arwen on Wed Aug 24 01:37:51 1994:

It is in Holly which is just east of Flint.

#30 of 109 by dang on Wed Aug 24 16:09:32 1994:

I'm not sure of dad will let me go, but I'll try. Details?

#31 of 109 by jkrauss on Wed Aug 24 21:29:12 1994:

Anyhoo, back to the original topic.
To me
Gold=worldly things.
Silver=Spiritual things.

#32 of 109 by anne on Thu Aug 25 00:48:53 1994:

Hey is this Ren Fest idea still inthe making? Sunny and I might go
on Sunday!! Maybe we should make it a grexpedition!!

#33 of 109 by canis on Thu Aug 25 02:23:39 1994:

Could someone gimme a ride to it? I'd be willing to contribute gas money among
other things. Do you have to be in coustom to participate<sp>?

#34 of 109 by kami on Thu Aug 25 05:23:54 1994:

definite grexpedition. The boys and I are going with Brett and Dona, so
cant offer rides. Sorry. Who else has a car? Sun, can you get the use
of yours? and take anyone else?
You don't have to be in costume, but sometimes it's fun. Most of what we
have is quite early- pre 13th century, but if anyone wants to borrow,
we can cobble something together. I plan to go onthe Saturday walk, so you
can talk to me then, too.
Looks like we are leaving (from my house?) about 10:AM, to meet Arwen and
Brighn near the front gate about noon. Bring money...:)

#35 of 109 by bnm on Thu Aug 25 13:11:14 1994:

Kami, do you know how much cash it is this year? Also, I might not
be able to do the Grex walk this Saturday. Showing up for lunch
is more likely, though.

#36 of 109 by anne on Thu Aug 25 17:05:38 1994:

Kami- I don't know about sun and her car, she is supposed to call me
tonight, and let me know.

#37 of 109 by arwen on Thu Aug 25 17:49:11 1994:

I have one seat in muy car leaving from Lansing unless I can
get a ride with Brighn and his wife Valerie. I think it is around 12 or 13 to
get in Brett. This will be fun...Misti says she is coming as well!!!

#38 of 109 by bhelliom on Thu Aug 25 18:47:20 1994:

Gods, zi've neveer been to the Ren fair!

#39 of 109 by anne on Thu Aug 25 19:35:33 1994:
