Grex Synthesis Item 13: Study Group - Anyone Interested?
Entered by robh on Sat Jun 26 05:26:25 UTC 1993:

As has been mentioned in item 1, Phaedrus and I have been bandying an idea
about, namely a face-to-face study group, where we could talk about
various "New Age" or occult topics, bring along books, and what have you.
First things first - what would Synthesis readers like to talk about at
such a meeting?

140 responses total.

Astrology, paganism.

#2 of 140 by phaedrus on Wed Jun 30 20:59:01 1993:

All of the above!
This isn't exactly brimming with responses!
-Phaedrus

#3 of 140 by bryan on Sun Jul 4 05:00:01 1993:

Paganism, Shamanism, Qaballah, voudoun, alchemy and anything anyone else caresd
to discuss.

#4 of 140 by robh on Sun Jul 4 20:35:03 1993:

That sounds good to me.

#5 of 140 by pegasus on Sun Jul 4 21:56:39 1993:

Why has this area become so heavily focused on paganism? There are plenty
of other things under the new age umbrella to talk about.

#6 of 140 by mta on Sun Jul 4 23:24:22 1993:

Very true...but there are several mouthy pagans active here at the moment. ;)

#7 of 140 by phaedrus on Tue Jul 6 12:21:48 1993:

Mouthy,...mouthy..., yea well...??!! So we're mouthy...!
The reason this area is focused on Paganism, is because nobody else is
being mouthy! Speak up, I'd love to discuss other topics, so bring some up!
-Phaedrus

And at this point, we should also come up with a good time and date
to meet.

#9 of 140 by phaedrus on Wed Jul 7 02:34:21 1993:

Sounds great, are there any major time limits that anyone has??
I can do evenings on weekdays, and if we plan far enough ahead, weekends
are
are cool. Just a reminder, there is a WEB KORE picnic this Sunday in
Royal Oak, should be fun, a hand-fasting is going on, as well as lots-o-
socializing!
What about the where also?? We could start by meeting at a local spot,
coffee shop?? Yes, we'll be trendy and hang out in a coffee shop??!!
-Phaedrus

#10 of 140 by robh on Fri Jul 9 02:55:41 1993:

Okay, phaedrus and I have talked it over, so here's our tentative
meeting time... 8 PM, next Wednesday (the 14th), at the coffee
place on Main Street, the name of which continues to elude me. I'll
be bringing my Witches' Tarot deck, which will facilitate talk
on Wicca, tarot, and Qabalah. Pheadrus and I will definitely be
there, anyone else? (Note, we can certainly discuss other things
as well!)

#11 of 140 by robh on Fri Jul 9 22:49:09 1993:

And in keeping with pagan tradition, phaedrus can't make it this
Wednesday, so we'll try for Wednesday the 21st instead.

#12 of 140 by phaedrus on Sat Jul 10 17:26:28 1993:

sorry...<<guilt ridden>>..
-phaedrus (allways on P.S.T.!!)

#13 of 140 by minx on Tue Aug 3 12:43:06 1993:

Well, the 21st has come and gone... <my b-day, btw> - did this meeting take
place, and are you planning another one?

#14 of 140 by robh on Tue Aug 3 20:48:58 1993:

Scott and I had planned one for tonight, but the rain and my car
don't get along. We'll try again for Thursday, 7 PM, Espresso Royale
on Main. Please do come!

#16 of 140 by robh on Tue Aug 10 02:26:52 1993:

Us closed? Are you kidding? I try to be as open as possible.

If enough people are interested, we can try another face-to-face. Who's
up for another one?

#17 of 140 by phaedrus on Tue Aug 10 12:29:08 1993:

...uh....I am. No comments please Rob!!
-phaedrus

This response has been erased.

#19 of 140 by mta on Thu Aug 12 19:31:57 1993:

I'm interested. I'll try to make it -- my problem isn't lack of interest
just a busy and un organized life.

#20 of 140 by robh on Mon Aug 23 22:55:03 1993:

Okay, Scott and I are going to try this again - When is a good time
for people to meet face to face and talk about stuff?

#21 of 140 by jones2 on Tue Aug 24 00:12:35 1993:

This response has been erased.

#22 of 140 by jones2 on Tue Aug 24 11:28:12 1993:

Have fun. Bye.

#23 of 140 by phaedrus on Tue Aug 24 12:15:55 1993:

Thursdays??

#24 of 140 by mta on Tue Aug 24 17:54:57 1993:

Thursdays? Where? Can my kids tag along? They come home from an
extended stay in Europe tomorrow, and I'll want to have them around
alot for awhile...

#25 of 140 by robh on Tue Aug 24 23:47:00 1993:

Of course you'r kids can come! They're not even that young, at least
compared to the four-year-old running around my house. Thursday are
bad for me for the near future, since I will have meetings at 8, unless
we can get it done before then?

#26 of 140 by phaedrus on Wed Aug 25 00:43:33 1993:

no, let's make it another day so we're not rushing. What day IS good???
For anyone?
-phaedrus

#27 of 140 by robh on Wed Aug 25 03:25:55 1993:

First of all, I apologize for the typoes in my last response.
Anyway, I meant ThursdayS, with an S, not two days from now.

#28 of 140 by phaedrus on Wed Aug 25 12:30:42 1993:

TuesdayS??
And I'm sorry Rob, but your apology isn't enough, you'll have to be
punished.
-phaedrus

#29 of 140 by robh on Tue Aug 31 22:34:32 1993:

What would people think about meeting at the next Grex board meeting, and
staying a little late? (The meetings are held at Zingerman's on a Tuesday
night, I don't know when the next one will be.)

#30 of 140 by phaedrus on Wed Sep 1 13:34:17 1993:

Or just showing up a little late...??
Sounds cool with me.
-phaedrus

#31 of 140 by mta on Fri Sep 10 02:42:34 1993:

Um, the board meetings have been moved to, I think, the 3rd Mon. of the
month. (See Co-op for details.)

Otherwise, it sounds good to me!

#32 of 140 by robh on Fri Sep 10 12:25:50 1993:

Yes, I'd heard. Actually, that works out better for me personally.

Anyway, should we shoot for September 20th, about 9 PM or so at
Zingerman's? (That should be after the board meeting is over.)

#33 of 140 by phaedrus on Fri Sep 10 12:29:44 1993:

So let it be written...
And I WILL be there on time...I swear...really.
-phaedrus

#34 of 140 by dana on Sun Sep 26 14:55:30 1993:

So how did the meeting go?

#35 of 140 by robh on Sun Sep 26 20:25:40 1993:

Scott and I talked for a while. That was pretty much it.

#36 of 140 by phaedrus on Mon Sep 27 12:57:10 1993:

But that's ok, we can take rejection...
It seems a little tougher than I thought to get people together to talk about
the Craft. Nearly as hard as getting a Coven going. Any insights??
I can't figure it out, most people are very reluctant to trust.
Do I stink THAT much...
-phaedrus

#37 of 140 by robh on Mon Sep 27 21:11:41 1993:

Naah, I don't think you stink, then again my sense of smell is nothing
special... Maybe it's just an Ann Arbor thing. I'm told by people
from other areas that meeting Pagan or New Age types is fairly easy.

#38 of 140 by phaedrus on Mon Sep 27 22:42:51 1993:

Are you open about your beliefs? I am pretty open, except at work I
wear my pentagram out. Though U of M is pretty accepting, I can't
imagine that upper managment would accept that.
-phaedrus

#39 of 140 by dana on Tue Sep 28 20:06:28 1993:

So what did you talk about?
