Grex Synthesis Item 124: Mystic Energies
Entered by bjorn on Fri Aug 14 17:31:22 UTC 1998:

One night while I was on lunch break at work, Osman, one of the Muslims whom
I work with was performing his evening paryers. Now, I've seen Muslims doing
their prayers before, but on that night I was seated at a table not too far
away . . . I'd say in all, I was about 100 feet from him. What made this
night weird though was that during his prayer, I felt energy fill a small
portion of the break room. I'm not entirely sure why I'm entering this,
although I originally thought I was going to use it as a basis for a question.
Looks like I lost the question.

How small a portion of the room did you sense the energy in?
Was it coming from the area where Osman was praying?

I certainly won't pretend that pagans have a monopoly on generating
energy, any serious prayer from anyone who's religious should be
able to generate something.

It spread from the corner of the room in which his praying to the wall 2 feet
behind me. It had no more width than Osman's body.

Sounds like a pretty straightforward event, then.

Given your description of the energy flow being about as wide
as his body, I'm curious whether this energy flow was toward
Mecca (which is the direction he would have been facing), or
if not, whether there was a seperate flow going toward Mecca.
Were you in the path where he was facing?

(Wot, me apply science to prayer? >8)

I was sitting directly behind him . . . the enrgy didn't seem to be going
anywhere. It just was there, and then I left the space it occupied.

Genuine prayer does generate energy -- but to those who don't study the
manipulation of energy, it may well be that they just naturally generate it
and leave it to their Gods to come find it. ;) It's quite possible that a
sage of his religion would have been sending it off to Mecca, and that as a
"less experienced" member opf his religion he wasn't even aware that he was
generating it, much less how to send it off.

I've experienced the same thing at Roman catholic services. Often many people
are genuinely generating energy, but it just hangs there because Catholics
aren't taught about prayer energy. Interestingly, at my father's funeral mass
last week the prayer energy was very strong and seemed directed. I don't know
whether some of the folks knew how to direct it or whether my fathers spirit
was using that energy for his movement to the Summerland/Heaven, though. I
was too tied up in my own emotions to pay close attention.

Well, like I've mentioned before somewhere in this or another conference, at
my cousin Joanna's funeral, a beam of positive energy was directed from her
coffin to my heart for the entirety of the indoor portion of the service.
Obviously, she knew what she was doing.

I have a note here from someone named Caridwen in Saline. She says she's
seeking people with whom to circle or to form a coven ... "Four of us are
circling together and would like to expand. We are four feminist women who
are active in our communities. We tend to focus on Westeren European
archetypes, took to Starhawk, Z Budapest, and Shakinah Mountainwater for
guidance, want to make strong magic, raise energy (especially by singing),
and ten give ourselves over to merriment and feasting. We'd like to celebrate
the major holidays routinely, include our families in rituals, and are open
to other traditions and practices, and both men and women. If you are
interested, please send email to Covenwomen@aol.com or a note to: [oops! I'd
rather not include the street address, for fear of who reads this conf.] Tell
us what you are interested in, and how to get in touch with you. Privacy is
guaranteed. Ceridwen."

As a Volsung with an open heart for additional beliefs, that sounds,
interesting. On the other hand, I feel that the city of Winona has become
my home (despite the fact that I live in Saline currently), and I feel
slightly more comfortable with the coven I already know.

I hope things go well for them. They should put an ad in the Seeker, and in
ConVocation's program guide...

Two topics;
1. I don't know why, but during the time I felt AEsir involvement with my
Mjolnir pendant, sometime while I was living in Iowa, I had a habit of always
putting it on while facing north and chanting an "in the name of" blessing
as a closed the clasp. Granted, the power was felt earlier than this, I just
don't know why I stopped putting the pendant on while facing north and giving
credits to the gods I worship.

2. I have found that I have accidentally "attuned" to certain people I know,
as if in some sort of spiritual bond.

I also remember that the power of the AEsir and the Vanir was stronger in
Malaysia than I have ever felt it in the U.S. Perhaps that is because it was
helping me forge my will out of adamantite to stave off the obtrusiveness of
the Fundamentalist Christain Missionaries who tried so hard to break my will
already of iron.

On another note, I have avoided situations where there has been a 100% chance
that I should no longer be on this side of the veil. Adding this to the fact
that I not only feel energy from people which I sometimes accidentally absorb
(Sky Woodman used to output so much that it hurt when my body would attempt
to absorb even though I was already "full", so to speak), but also from
buildings, typically places of religious practice, makes me feel that I can
KNOW with 100% accuarcy that there is SOMETHING looking out for all life.
Whether it is proper to call that THING a god or not is something I do not
know.
