Grex Synthesis Item 102: Signing your Patron
Entered by robh on Sat Nov 2 23:34:53 UTC 1996:

(Here's a survey request from hackman@tiac.net that was passed along
to me by kami. Anyone interested in responding should send mail
to the above address.)

Right now I'm endeavoring to put together all the astrology data that
I've collected in the last few days. Amazingly enough I am noticing some
definite patterns. This suprises me because I've also done statistical
research on other batches of data and haven't found much of anything
significant.

However, based on the writings of this author from 1600 years ago, who
said that you can determine 'succor' through certain deities based on
what stars are rising and in the ninth house (basically what your rising
sign and house cusps are) I collected the data from people on the celtic
lists.

I've definitely noticed some patterns although I need to somehow collect
more data from people who know whom their patron(s) are. For instance,
people who 'worship' the morrigan tend to have gemini rising (in the
neighborhood of 15 degrees gemini) were the star aldebaran (the eye of
taurus) is. They also tend to have the moon in scorpio.

However, a few of the people who claim brigit and Danu also have the
middle of gemini rising so I'm not completely sure what that means.
Gemini rising is extremely popular among celtic pagans. The normal
average is something like 5% but in our sample it's 16%.

The funny thing is if I took this to a scientist and said - look these
people all have gemini rising and the moon in scorpio and they worship
The Morrigan a celtic battle goddess. They'd say, 'they do what?? Get
the hell out of here!'

Not to mention that fact that working backwards, like I am, is not
usually considered significant scientifically. Now if I could form some
hypothesis and then test it on an entirely different batch of people
that would be considered scientific.

People who have brigit for a matron tend to have the four fixed signs at
the pivot points (rising, midheaven, descendant, and straight down). The
four fixed signs are important, because these are the spots where the
celtic festivals lie as far as the path of the sun through the yearly
cycle goes. Out of the 11 brigit people I have - their rising signs
happen mainly in Taurus, Aquarius, and Leo. But not Scorpio the other
fixed sign. Also, about half of the Brigit people have sun conjunct
jupiter. Making me wonder if brigit plays a role as a Sun and or Jupiter
goddess.

Out of the 40 people I've collected so far There's only been one scorpio
rising other than me. However, My patron is the dagda and I haven't
collected charts from anybody else who claims the Dagda as their patron.

Also, there have been no Piscese rising people other than my wife Cat,
and she seems to favored by several of them, moreso than any particular.
If anybody out there has Piscese or scorpio rising i'd be interested in
hearing from you.

Scorpio however is a much higher than average position to find almost
any planet or point among the people in this sample (with the exception
of the rising sign). I plugged all the charts into a Astrology program
for statistical analysis (called Jigsaw) and collected data for all the
planets and points lumped together and there was a large spike at
Scorpio.

Rather than going around telling people 'So and So is your patron' what
I'd really like to do is try and build up some correspondences between
various deities and various constellations and or planets that could be
used in trying to (re)construct a real celtic based astrology.
