Ecuador vs Peru - Does anyone have the lowdown on whether or not it is safe in Quito? (We have a daughter there and although she says it's no problemo, (Wants to stay) we would appreciate a first hand report.

The State Department publishes traveler's advisories for such areas. Have you tried contacting them?
Another source would be to contact news services which maintain outposts in areas of concern, and do some digging.
If you want a first-hand report, you need to go to Quito! If you speak Spanish, you can tune in a lot of the Peruvian/Ecuadorian military communications on an HF/SSB radio receiver, although some of it is coded.
The State Dept. as of approx mid Feb said it was safe and "don't worry, feel happy." Their item was last updated in June, 1994. (Even though their info is listed as updated continuously). Someone is relaxing on the taxpayer's account.
