Did anyone else notice that the Sporting News predicted that the Detroit Lions would win the Superbowl this year? In other news, Barry send the Lions a check for $1.833 million - no unretirement this year!

I thought the Sporting News predicted the Lions were *going* to the Super Bowl, not that they'd win. I have my doubts, beyond that I'm 39 years old and have never seen any chance that the Lions would win a Super Bowl. My main doubt is that the Lions play in the same conference as Tampa Bay (Tony Dungee is a brilliant coach), not to overlook Washington (the Redskins picked up some big-name players, including Deion Sanders). I think Bobby Ross is a brilliant coach, too. His development of Charlie Batch has been an unprecedented thing in Detroit. The record from last year, with Barry Sanders leaving on the verge of training camp, and with all of the injuries to key players (Westbrook, Moore, the offensive line, etc.) was very impressive. I just think the other teams look pretty tough this year. As far as Barry Sanders... I don't think he could return and play for the Lions if he wanted to. I don't see why the team would accept him. I wouldn't have believed it a year ago, but the Lions do seem to be a better team without him. Not as exciting, but better.
Oh that's right, GOING to the Super Bowl. Maybe someone is going to buy them tickets. I'm a fan, not a radical believer. =)
Whew! I thought the heat was getting to you, and we'd have to send you some of Lake Superior. I was afraid you'd become a Carolina Panthers fan or something. That would be terrible.
Hahahahah... Hahhahahahahhaahha... No, I'm a Lions fan, mostly because of Charlie Batch. I was never really into them before. I just bitched a lot about Scott Mitchell, etc... HOWEVER no matter what happens I will always be a Tiger fan.
I'm sorry, I just don't see what the Lions have done that elevates them from wild card loser to the super bowl. Thier O-line and running game will definitely be improved from last year. But Batch is a question mark AFAIC, and Tomczak (sp) as a backup doesn't thrill me.
Charlie Batch is the first QB the Lions have had since Gary Danielson who I'm not afraid to see making decisions about what to do with the football. That's why I'm excited about him.
The lions will suck unless someone starts building a *&^^%
IMO, they have a TEAM... they've had one ever since Barry Sanders left. Last year they were decimated by injuries almost all year and still managed to be respectable. If they can avoid those injuries, they could easily make it to the Super Bowl with the existing staff. Everyone knows that lack of injuries is one of the biggest keys to GETTING to the Super Bowl.
