Another in this era of sports comebacks. Gordie Howe is coming back! Gordie is coming out of retirement and hopes to start for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League. His first game willbe agains tthe Carolina Monarchs on April 1st, the day after Gordie's 69th birthday. The Crunch are the top minor league team of the Vancouver Canucks. If Gordie is any good, maybe he'll get promoted to Vancouver before the playoffs. It'llbe nice to see Gordieback, but hemay be letting his vanity get to him, trying tocome backbecuase Gretzky is breaking allhis scoring records.

Well..i think that he should stay retired. He's getting way old now, no matter how good he once was, and if he gets checked well.. the words "Snap, crackle, pop" keep coming to mind :)
Ah, Gordie's a tough old guy, he still plays exhibitions and practice games and such. He probably cant do the minutes he could when he was younger, but he can still get up and down the ice. Some might consider this a publicity stunt, but that isnt Gordie Howe. He wouldnt do anything he wasnt serious about.
besides, canyou see it if Gordie gets called up by Vancouver and gets to laceup the skates against the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena! That would be great...
I was lucky enough to have spent 2 hours talking to Gordie Howe, and from what I heard and saw, he has no ego, but he is a good and decent person. I think it's wonderful that Gordie's coming back. I think it might give the game some much needed class, and he might just make a few players wake up and smell the coffee. I wouldn't count on him to be an everyday player, but I think he could do it. I cannot think of a person that embodies the word class more than he does.
Oh I like Gordy. I agree that he is a good and decent person. But I also think this is a stunt to get in some hockey playing into a sixth decade, hardly anything more.
So what if it is? He is probably the only one who can do this and get away with it. Go Gordie!
Minnie Minoso (sp) tried to play baseball in his 60's (to keep his "decades played in" streak going), but the commish wouldn't let him.
Syracuse isnt going to play Gordie after all...they've been slumping and need to win the game he was scheduled for. He might come back next season.
I just don't get it. All this speculation about why he's coming back, if he's coming back. WHy can't they just let the man do what he wants for pities sake? Sheesh..
Because this is a conferencing system. As participants, it is our job to analyze absolutely everything.
No, I mean in the media! All the media types are jumping all over him because the guy wanted to play some more hockey. That's what I don't get.
Oh. Sorry. Well I figure he was jumped on because a lot of them felt that it was a cheap publicity trick.
