Okay its World Series time! The New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves. Who does everyone like? Both teams have greatpitching...the Braves have more speed but the Yankees have more power. And thehome field advantage. I see the series going seven games, with the Braves winning because of the depth of their starting rotation I'm guessing that most ofyou will be rooting for the Yankees because theyhave Big Cecil Fielder playing for them. Then again John Smolz came up in the Tigers Organization, and Tom Glavine grew up in Ypsi and went to high school in A2.

Normally I'd "root" for the AL team. But I just can't cheer for them damn yankees! :-) So we'll see if Atlanta can keep up its strong pitching and offensive glut of late.
John Smolz is good, and He gave me an autograph where as Cecil wouldn't....
Monsoon time. The amount of rain that fell in New York was quite amazing. Flooded infield and outfield. Game cancelled early in the day. Nor'easter also bringing in high winds.
heresy. No discussion of Hockey? absolute heresy. <thinks about changing the login screen again>
How 'bout them Braves?! :-) Musta been eating their Wheaties & grits lately... (Atlanta beat the Yankees 12-1 in game #1 Sunday night)
The beat goes on: The Braves whipped NY again in Yankee Stadium, 4-0. The Braves pitchers have given up a grand total of two (2) runs in the last 5 post-season games. Game 3 tonight in Atlanta. Glavine vs. does-it matter? (actually David Cone). Only 2 teams have lost the first 2 WS games at home and come back to win the WS: KC in '85 & the Mets in '86.
Well, let's hope for a quick end to this nonsense so we can get back to hockey.
The beat did not go on. Apparently the NY pitcher did matter, as Dave Cone took care of business and the Braves. Put down your hockey stick, Jim. The series is tied, as the Yanks came from a 6-0 deficit to win game 4 in 11 innings 8-6. The Atlanta bullpen failed them. It's a whole new 3-game series. All those runs in game 1 aren't going to help the Braves now.
As much as Tim McCarver annoys me - for as much as he *does* know about baseball - I have to agree with him about Wohlers (sp) needing to stick with his fastball, and limiting the use of his slider. The tying home run from Leyritz was hit off a hanging slider, when he hadn't proven he could hit Wohlers' fastball. The braves shot themselves in the foot last night: The reason that it was a game-tying 3-run homer instead of a 2-run homer is that Raphael Beliard couldn't handle a hard-hit double play ball cleanly, and only got the force at second. Little things like that can have large consequences... I'm still hoping for the Braves to beat the hated New Yokkers, so I hope that Smoltz can put it to 'em again tonight...
the game last night was painful...to lose 1-0 on an unearned run. *ouch!*
Yeah, Smoltz *did* put it to 'em, but Andy Petitte put it to the Braves just a little bit better. Well, the Braves were down 3 games to 1 to the Cards...
Braves Fans now must root for the visiting team to sweep all seven games of the series. It's possible, but because of the rainout, Smoltz is only going to get to pitch twice in this series (he's now finished) and I will bet that the Yankees can win one game at home, and that's all they need. It isn't over until the fat lady sings, though. (Where is she, anyway?)
oh well...Yankees won, Braveslost...Yanks had a deeper bullpen and bench. Braves needed Dave Justice off the DL. It was a goodseries though. Time to watch football
I was right for the second time in 15 yrs. Last time was the Phillies vs the Royals in 1980?
In retrospect I believe that the whole series turned on inning 8 of game 4. If the double-play was made, if better pitching were done, the Braves wouldn't have blown a 6-0 lead, they would have gone up 3 games to 1, and most likely would have won the series...
I thought Cecil Fielder played well.
