Grex Sports Item 122: WTKA sports forum?
Entered by jep on Tue Sep 10 00:01:06 UTC 2002:

I saw that WTKA's WWW board is down, and seized the opportunity to send
the following e-mail to their Webmaster:

Dear Webmaster:

I noticed your posting board is down right now. Please allow me to
suggest an alternative. There are two non-profit conferencing systems
in Ann Arbor, which sponsor forums on sports as well as many other
topics. These are both run by 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations.

The two organizations are:
http://www.cyberspace.org (Grex, which started about 9 years ago)
http://www.arbornet.org (M-Net, started about 19 years ago)

I am the conference coordinator of the sports conferences on both
systems. Both systems are UNIX based, with WWW based graphical
interfaces as well as text-based non-graphical interfaces, available
to all people who wish to participate. Both sites are free; both
accept contributions which are donations, and both also offer
memberships to those who are interested. Memberships and
contributions do not affect the level of usage for people connecting
to the sites. They are truly free.

As the conference coordinator of these sports conferences, I'd like
to invite you to check into them and see if you might like to suggest
your visitors try our sites.

I hope you'll give us a visit. If you'd like to discuss this
directly, I'll be happy to talk to you, either by phone or by dropping
by your office. I work at Sterling Commerce here at Domino's Farms.

My phone numbers:
daytime: 734-930-7878
evening: 517-424-5304

Thanks very much!

Ever get a response to this?

No, I never got any response at all, even an acknowledgement.

I should probably note that WTKA is owned by Clear Channel
Communications, the largest owner of radio stations in the US, and
they appear to have their own computer networks. I don't take their
lack of response as a snub, but rather as an indication thay they
prefer to provide their own services. They may also have not seen my
e-mail at all, regarding it as spam.
