Someone gives you a gift you don't think you'll use, and then offers to exchange it for you. Do you accept the offer?

Never. Unless it's my mother in law :). Otherwise, I want them to think I *love* it, or at least am so appreciative that I wouldn't dream of sending them back for one in a different color.
Ooops, you said I'd never use it. So not even a differnt color matters. But even so, no.
Oh... hello again Mr. Sensitive Ponytail Man! Long time no see. So you woould save face with the gift giver even tho you would basically throw the gift away when you got home. Now that's not very Sensitive...
(I think simcha is female, fraizer)
(Indeed, and pregnant to boot.)
Take it back and get the money!!!

re #4: oh...
Hi Ryan, welcome to Grex!
Who is the gift from? A close relative? A distant relative? A spouse? A co-worker? In general, the more closely connected I am to the giver, the more I would be inclined to accept their offer if I know them well enough to know no offense will be taken. (I mean, if it's your spouse, you can't hide the fact that it's in a box and you never use it...)
Good point. :)
I think I'd take the offer. I know how hard it is to shop for other people, and I even sometimes have difficulty with myself. I think that by offering to exchange, the giver is saying, "I was thinking of you, but I wasn't sure what to think..."
The reason for giving a gift is to represent the caring, love, or affection one has for another. Even the gift of a co-worker is given because that person was caring enough to think of another. In the senerio, the person chooses the gift and then remains thoughtful enough to offer and correct a wrong, if you say its wrong, by exchanging the gift. I degress, the proverb "It's not the gift, it's the thought they put behind it." comes to mind. The object they handed you wasn't the gift, it's the thought they put behind it...and there is no exchange policy for that. ___________________________________________________________________ ag840@freenet.hsc.colorado.edu sisko@cyberspace.org I thought I used to be indecisive...but now I'm not sure?
I like that answer.
