Grex Scruples Item 79: The overseen infidelity
Entered by md on Mon Oct 3 18:14:30 UTC 1994:

On a late-night walk through the neighborhood, you see the
husband of your wife's best friend necking in a parked car
with another woman. You are reasonably sure that neither
of them knew they had been seen. Do you say anything to
anyone, and if so, what and to whom?

I'd say nothing to anyone. When the wife is ready to "see"
what's happening she'll see it without help.

I think the next time we all went out together, I would slip in
a little story about two friends with one's husband cheating on her...
and let the (expletive deleted) sweat.

Knowing two people now who have gotten divorced because of screwed
up American attitudes and suppressed emotions leading to guilt
leading to stupid decisions because of that guilt, I would first
talk *explicitly* to the husband to find out what was going on,
and, if it appeared necessary, speak *explicitly* to the wife.
This would of course depend on my relationship to all involved,
and their relationships to each other. Further knowing two women
with two male love interests each (the males know about, and accept,
each other), I would not immediately assume the situation to be
an unacceptable one.
After all, it's only cheating if your partner doesn't approve.
