Does someone want to explain what some of these are? Is "In The Beginning"
a recap of the first four years, or what?

#2 of 37 by anderyn on Sat Jan 3 03:00:53 1998:

In the Beginning is the tale of the Earth-Minbari war, told in a flashback
form by Londo Mollari to two children just before the events twenty years
from now which we saw in the time-travel episode. (Whem!) It should give
more info on what and why. The "Guide" is a quick overview. And "Thirdspace
is a mystery story which takes place during the series, but which is not
actually referneced in any broadcast episodes, afaik.

        Glad I used a 130 minute tape and a 160 tape to record B5
this past Sunday. I switched to the 160 in the last commercial
break before the very end of In The Beginning. Kinda felt there
would be no space between that and The Gathering.
TNT was better last night at getting the first episode in
within 7pm and 8pm. 8pm live sports may have kept the clock
correct.

#5 of 37 by aruba on Tue Jan 13 14:24:27 1998:

I'm going to try to tape them all, sans commercials. This is my first major
taping project, so we'll see how long I go before I screw up. :) I got some
3-packs of 160-minute "everyday" Maxell tapes at Target for $7 apiece. Is
that a good price, can anyone tell me? Where do you all get your tapes?

#6 of 37 by matthew on Wed Jan 14 18:36:10 1998:

I found 10 packs of tapes at Best Buy for $13, but I think they were on
special sale then. They are only 120 minute tapes, but they are of reasonable
quality.

#7 of 37 by aruba on Thu Jan 15 06:54:22 1998:

Thanks Matthew - I'll check there.

#8 of 37 by tpryan on Sun Jan 18 19:32:07 1998:

I am using 160 minute tapes. Three episodes on each tape. I
squirelled away a large quantity of 3M High Grade Collections tapes
about a year ago, since they have less advertising on them as they
sit on the shelf and have a more durable cardboard case. I had been
using only plastic sleeved tapes for Star Trek collections, but alas,
those, too, have gone extint in the video tape market.
"The Gathering" and 22 first season episodes puts the first
season on 8 tapes at standard speed, cross-taping from SP to SP to
remove commercials.
I have the fourth season on 8 130 minutes tapes. At 44 min
per episode x 3, that uses 132 minutes of tape. Some just fit.
I also copied Garabaldi's 2nd favorite thing in the universe
after the first episode: Duck Dodgers in the 24&1/2th Century.

#9 of 37 by kaplan on Wed Jan 21 01:46:45 1998:

If I pay less than $2 per tape, I am happy. By that standard, $7 for 3
tapes is a bit much. "Everyday" probably means it's good to record
over every day. If you are planning to archive your B5 tapes, this is
probably not the thing you need.

When I keep tapes, I do not bother to cut out commercials. The risk of
missing part of the show, wasting time finding the right point on the
tape, the quality of image you lose when you cross-tape do not seem
worth it to me. I'll zip past the commercials when I watch the tapes.

Help! I have a Babylon 5 question. I put it at the end of item 19, but I
don't know if anyone reads that anymore....

#11 of 37 by matthew on Thu Mar 26 22:32:02 1998:

I'm afraid I don't recall everything he said. Anyone have a tape they can
refer back to easily ?

WAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

#16 of 37 by robh on Sat Jul 11 21:50:01 1998:

On the bright side, WB Home Video will begin releasing B5 video
tapes later this year...

#17 of 37 by tpryan on Sat Jul 11 23:12:58 1998:

"Thirdspace" the next B5 TV movie airs on TNT Sunday, July 19th
TNT added a West Coast feed, so now California sees the shows
at the same clock time as us on Eastern Time.
TNT also added an 11pm showing of the 5th season episode that
aired at 8pm Wednesday.

#18 of 37 by tpryan on Sun Jul 26 21:18:12 1998:

        Any reviews of Thirdspace?
I did not find it fit into our B5 as we know it. Only gave
us some backstory on Leda and Zack and a couple others. What is it
with Sheridan and nukes anyway?

#19 of 37 by robh on Mon Jul 27 00:20:44 1998:

Haven't had a chance to watch the tape yet.

#20 of 37 by dam on Tue Jul 28 00:28:05 1998:

The nukes still seem to be a very powerful weapon. they haven't talked about
why they don't use them more in military space campaigns.

#21 of 37 by starwolf on Thu Aug 27 16:19:01 1998:

Any way you look at it, a thermonuclear reaction generates a *lot* of
energy. Didn't EarthForce use nukes on Mars when it tried to seceede?

#22 of 37 by larsn on Thu Sep 17 14:19:06 1998:

For those that do not know, in January Babylon 5: Crusade will hopefully
begin airing on TNT. It's another 5 year project, just like the original
Babylon 5. More information can of course be found at most Babylon 5
websites, and a good starting point may be
http://tnt.turner.com/babylon5 or http://www.midwinter.com/lurk.

#23 of 37 by robh on Thu Sep 17 15:42:42 1998:

And for those who want the last five episodes of B5 completely
ruined >8) send me e-mail and I'll forward the spoilers I got
last week.

#24 of 37 by tpryan on Wed Nov 18 23:08:12 1998:

Well, here we are the night of the last episodes produced for
season 5. "Objects at Rest" . Next week in the final episode, written
and shot in April-May, 1997. We know it's the last episode, but
don't read the little blurbs in TV Guide, they give away too much.
Just watch next Wednesday at 10pm on TNT (Ann Arbor Cable 30).

#28 of 37 by krj on Thu Dec 10 08:37:22 1998:

I had heard during the previous years.

personally, I thought it kinda ended with a fizzle.

#30 of 37 by robh on Tue Feb 2 03:33:42 1999:

It could have been better, though I'm still happy to see how Vir

Looks like Crusade has been cancelled. :(

#32 of 37 by robh on Tue Mar 2 15:48:47 1999:

Maybe - TNT will be showing the 13 episodes which have been filmed
so far, and Warner Brothers is hoping to sell the series (or get
it renewed) if the ratings are good.

#33 of 37 by aruba on Tue Mar 2 20:12:45 1999:

JMS sounded pretty pessimistic in the article I read. Let's all watch it,
though, and see if we can tip the ratings scale. :)

When's it supposed to be on? And is Marcus dead or what?

#35 of 37 by robh on Wed Mar 17 22:05:15 1999:

Oh, Marcus is very very dead. That was a while ago!

Crusade will be debuting June 9th at 10 PM on TNT.

#36 of 37 by dam on Thu Mar 18 17:04:04 1999:

he seems to be a corpsickle.

#37 of 37 by anne on Fri Mar 19 18:17:55 1999:

I read somewhere that he was told that if x happened then Marcus
wouldn't really be dead, he would be in cryogenic sleep or something,
and if x didn't happen Marcus would just be well... dead.
