Entered by bobguy on Sun Oct 25 14:45:04 UTC 1992:

Hey, has anyone ever seen a show called "The Red Dwarf"?
I saw a couple of episodes and died laughing...

Of course! TARDA2 has tapes of most of the episodes, up through season
5. Come to one of our meetings (every other Wednesday, 2439 Mason
Hall on the U of M Campus, 8 PM) and watch with us.

"Now, the most difficult decision we must make is what to call
ourselves. My own personal favorite is the Comittee for the
Liberation and Integration Of Terrifying Organisms and their
Rehabilitation Into Society. There's just one problem with it,
the initials spell CLITORIS."

Red Dwarf is hilarious! I'm hoping that the Science Fiction Channel
will pick it up. I've got most of the first two seasons on tape but
would love to get my hands on seasons 3, 4, and 5..

So do you think it's hard for a Dead Guy to get a job?

#4 of 61 by griz on Wed Nov 11 18:38:02 1992:

I watched it on network television ... when I was in Belfast. :-)

#5 of 61 by matthew on Sat Nov 14 06:13:29 1992:

I've never even heard of it, could anyone give me brief idea as to what it's
aout ? Thanks.

#6 of 61 by terru on Sat Nov 14 09:11:50 1992:

Okay, this dreadlock guy gets put into suspended animation for goofing
off and generally doing nasty things to his bunkmate Rimmer. One outcome
of his goofing off causes the entire crew of the ship to off it due to
radioactive contamination. The ships computer decides to keep him in
stasis for the 3 million years it takes for the ship to be liveable.

He comes out to find that his cat (who he got put in stasis for) breed
cats who evolved into human like beings who still act like cats. One of
these cats becomes his companion. This cat looks like one of the Pips
for want of any better description.

Our heros other companion is a holographic construct in the form of his
old bunkmate.

These three proceed to bug the hell out of each other while dealing with
various SF problems in an amusing fashion.

It's good enough for me to have memorized the theme song.

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open for it.

#8 of 61 by bobguy on Fri Nov 27 14:18:22 1992:

Hey, you forgot about The Computer...The ship's computer also has a
personality...a very misguided personality if you can imagine that!

In addition, you should mention that his old bunkmate is of those
straight-laced, spit-n-polish, Oxford type dudes! You know, the type
that believes in Principles of Management!

"Frank Burns in space" is the description I've been given.

#10 of 61 by vidar on Tue Sep 28 23:06:02 1993:

Kimball Kinisen was here!

#11 of 61 by driver on Sun Apr 24 13:12:09 1994:

Hello people. OK. To begin, we in the UK have now seen 5 or 6 series of Red rf.
Yes, they are excellent. I would like to point out that a complete sad
character who can only be described as a git(ie. Rimmer) is nothing at all like
an Oxford-type. Although I am not arguing that Oxford does not contain it's
share of Rimmers, don't stereotype all of us please. PS. Don't be alarmed when
Holly's sex changes overnight. Things like that
    happen in deep space!

.:help
Sorry about that, I said I said it was my first message.
Anyway, as I was saying, I have the first 6 seasons on tape. I think
it's the most hilarious show ever. After the second season, thee's a
format change. A bit of the history is re-written, and a new
character (actually introduced in the second season), an android named
Kryten, is added. My favourite episodes are Better Than Life (season 1),
Kryten (season 2), and Back to Reality (season 5). How about any other
favourites?

#13 of 61 by aruba on Thu Jul 7 00:51:39 1994:

I'd have to go with "Stasis Leak" myself, but I've only seen the first
two seasons. Sure would like to see the rest.

#14 of 61 by krebsy on Fri Sep 30 13:03:04 1994:

Here in the UK they are currently repeating all of the series and they are up
to series 6 now. I don't want to sour the atmosphere but Craig (Lister)
Charles is up on a Rape charge at the moment. Unf. the news is almost totally
silent about it here, but i'll post a report as i get one.
  Krebsy.

#15 of 61 by robh on Fri Sep 30 22:55:50 1994:

Yes, I've been following that in the Red Dwarf newsgroup. I hope
he's acquitted, but more importantly, I hope he didn't do it.

#16 of 61 by cyberpnk on Sat Oct 1 17:55:12 1994:

Here in Texas, there is a pbs station out of Dallas called KERA.
They run Red Dwarf on saturday nights, and they're going through all the
episodes again. I hope RD does NOT get on the scifi channel because of this
annoying habit of arbitrarily hacking programs to fit time slots. And one of my
favorite episodes is 'Qua' Quarantine' (season 4?)

C-=:)

#17 of 61 by aruba on Thu Nov 10 02:19:51 1994:

For anyone who's interested, Blockbuster Video on Main St. in Ann Arbor
has the first 4 seasons of Red Dwarf for rent (there are 2 tapes per
season). Right now you'll find them on the "New Releases" shelf.

#18 of 61 by tryxilit on Sat Nov 12 10:40:35 1994:

Can I clarify a small point it isn't actually as a result of Listers 'goofing
off' that the radiation leak occurs but due to rimmers negligance in repariing
the drive plate which allows a cadmium-2 leak.. Now this is also sort of due to
the fact that Lister should have been helping him but couldn't because he was
in stasis.. However Lister wasn't in stasis for goofing off but for breaking
quarantine regs by smuggling an un quarantined pet..His cat...on to the ship
and by refusing to give her up for disection and analysis.. It's a small point
but a rather important one in my view... It explains a lot of Rimmer's
insecuritys and also why it is him and not Lister that is imprisioned on
Justice World... A devoted RD fan..(Whattya mean you can tell ;) )

#19 of 61 by cyberpnk on Sat Nov 12 17:51:36 1994:

I acquired the red dwarf novels recently, and the reason that lister got the
cat in the first place was (according to the book) lister signed on hoping for
a quick passage back to earth from mimas, and he found out that it would take 5
years.

#20 of 61 by tryxilit on Sun Nov 13 03:11:59 1994:

Yup Grant Naylor decided that Lister broke quarentine rules just to get in
to Stasis as he could stand the thought of another 5 years in sopace...
Nice Irony huh?

#21 of 61 by guyver1 on Sun Sep 10 00:24:10 1995:

Hey, anyone who doesn't like Red Dwarf should just smeg off!

#22 of 61 by aruba on Sun Sep 10 12:19:47 1995:

I wish someone would show Red Dwarf again in the Detroit area. It's been
absent for 4 years now, and they only ever showed the first 2 seasons anyway.
Blockbuster recently got seasons 1-4, but I understand there are quite a few
more than that now, right? And whatever happened with that rape trial,
anybody know?

#23 of 61 by kaplan on Thu Sep 14 05:23:55 1995:

There have been 6 seasons of RD. Craig was not convicted of rape and there
may be 2 more seasons made.

#24 of 61 by aruba on Tue Sep 19 22:48:40 1995:

Well, that's good to hear.

#25 of 61 by cyberpnk on Tue Oct 3 16:07:40 1995:

I've got every episode except for the one called 'D.N.A.'

#26 of 61 by han on Thu Dec 7 19:53:02 1995:

A good friend of mine in the UK just introduced me to RD..sent me the books and
everything. All I have to say is it is fantastic! I can't find any episodes
round here, but you can bet your buttons I'll be watching it when I go to the
UK in June :)

#27 of 61 by cyberpnk on Fri Dec 22 16:37:42 1995:

It's a small off-duty Checkoslavakian traffic warden!

#28 of 61 by han on Wed Jan 24 18:56:26 1996:

I'm on a quest. I've heard too much about this show..and I *must* see it! If
anyone knows of a station in the eastern PA area that runs it, or knows where I
can get videos of it in the USA, PLEASE tell me!

#29 of 61 by kaplan on Fri Jan 26 01:47:20 1996:

Ask your local video store. I've seen RD for both sale and rental.

#30 of 61 by cyberpnk on Thu Feb 8 16:42:36 1996:

Don't quote me on this but you can ask for a catalog at this number:
1-800-800-2FOX <I think that's it.>. I was lucky enough to catch RD when
the local PBS station ran it down here. I'm only missing about 4 episodes.

#31 of 61 by aruba on Mon Feb 12 03:23:29 1996:

Blockbuster here in Ann Arbor started carrying Red Dwarf episodes a while ago.
THey brag that from any of their stores you can order anything they carry, for
purchase. But they might be able to get it for rental, too.

#32 of 61 by dethone on Thu Aug 21 05:39:24 1997:

Aww smeg! nobody's typed here for over a year! Red Dwarf is back on TV in
Baltimore (channel 22/67) at 12:30 am.!!! They're showing the 7th season.
I love Red Dwarf!!! the show rocks!!!! So be cool and stay slinky!

#33 of 61 by aruba on Tue Sep 2 20:48:08 1997:

I wish they'd show it in Detroit.

#34 of 61 by diznave on Tue Nov 4 10:10:10 1997:

Yeah, Red Dwarf!!! I know, I know...its politicaly incorrect. We shouldn't
call people dwarves. And we shouldn't call native americans "red", but there
is this very short native american who lives down the block from me, and he
calls himself the Red Dwarf. He juggles thumbtacks and watermelons. And he
drives a really cool looking El Camino. By the way, did you know its
*impossible* to find El Caminos in Matchbox size? I know. I've been looking
for years. Why? Because my former roommate Dan loved El Caminos! He sure was
odd.

#35 of 61 by tpryan on Mon Nov 10 05:30:32 1997:

        smeghead.

#36 of 61 by prelec on Mon Nov 2 13:43:06 1998:

Red Dwarf if great.

#37 of 61 by starwolf on Mon Dec 7 15:00:51 1998:

A friend of mine has created, in the Star Wars RPG, the Victory-class
Star Destroyer Red Dwarf. Yes, the entire VSD is bright red. He hopes
that VSDs are featured in Episode 1 so some company will market model
kits.

#38 of 61 by dea on Thu Apr 8 02:08:12 1999:

i am a loyal RD fan i love the show, the thing i find the most fun about the
show is how criton's head changes from season to season.

#39 of 61 by cyberpnk on Tue Apr 27 15:50:45 1999:

It's Kryten, and his head doesn't change that much. In other news, KERA has
just started up season 8, and the episodes so far are hilarious!
