I'm thinking of running an off-line adventure at some point in the future, but I don't know when, or what system, or even if I'll actually have the time to do it. I don't plan on even attempting this until I've at least read the AD&D PHB and DMG cover to cover, the Alternity PHB and GMG cover to cover, and the Timelords 2nd Edition rulebook cover to cover. We'd also need to find someplace to meet, I'd suggest my house, but right now, even that's off limits because of what a disaster area my room is. O well, if this happens, is anyone interested? I've given up on on-grex gaming.

Okay. I'm a little less confused now. For one, I know that weekends, probably Sundays would be the best time for me. I've even decided on what order I plan to read the Rulebooks in, and it turns out that that order is exactly the order in which I typed them in. I am still not sure what I will want to run, nor where we could play though. Maybe it would help if I asked what people are interested in?
I've begun reading the AD&D PHB cover to cover . . . I'm going through proficiency descriptions and highlighting important facts within them.
Maybe I should just give up seeing as I'm just talking to myself.
Nope, not talking to yourself. Some of us who have read the TSR rulebooks cover to cover several times are just waiting for you to decide what direction you are going.
Well, I'm about done with the AD&D PHB - all I have left is to read the spell descriptions and then its on to the DMG . . . Glad to see I'm not just talking to myself.
<coyote points out that there are lurkers here as well, too>
There are always lurkers. It's the one's that are above you that you need to look out for. :)
I've finished reading through 2nd level Wizard spells, I don't know how much farther be how soon.
One thing I remember from reading is that TSR is infamous in contradicting itself about alignment. Compare and contrast the definitions of alignment, and then look at the example of the nine alignment party (along with all the stuff preceeding it about why it isn't a good idea to play evil characters and all the other b.s.)
yup, don't TSR suck
No. It's just stupid sometimes.
Most people are, sometimes. The problem is when you manage to get your stupidity published...
TSR, until it became the property of WotC, considered deadlines for new releases more important the quality. Now, WotC lets them be their own company, but makes sure products are of quality before they are shipped. Which is why release is now by month, rather than any specific date. Although it was nice to be able to buy the PlaneScape campaign setting on the precise day of May 1996, the back of that one Dark Sun novel advertised.
What? WotC bought TSR?! How could they do that? TSR is totally the grand old man of roleplaying! I'm shocked! Why didn't they ask me about this?! Where the hell have I been? <Cricket wanders around yelling like confused cow>
Under a rock, apparently. This isn't _old_ news, but it isn't new either. Personally, I wish they'd revived their own roleplaying department that they'd assassinated to make room for card games, but alas, 'twas not meant to be.
well, the fact that TSR hadn't been able to afford to pulish anything for 2 months and was filing for bankrupcy might have had something to do with it..
But, since TSR is now the property of WotC while still being its own company, things are turning out for the better, as they are cranking out now products like crazy . . . but within reason.
In any case, I think I'll continue reading spell descriptions today since I have the day off from work and the sooner I'm done with the PHB, the sooner I can start the DMG.
Well, I'm done with 3rd-level wizard spells, though I had to switch highliters after Sepia Snake Sigil.
There will be more read through this Sunday, perhaps. I have been requested to work the midnight shift from Saturday to Sunday Morning.
After fiddling with my CD cube, and perhaps a dip in the local lake, I will turn back to reading the AD&D Player's Handbook so that I might finish it sometime this month. Gotta find that highliter, though. I also may be at an event at my brother-in-law's mother's house tomorrow, so that may postpone things as well. But, even if I don't get things done when I have a lot of time, I will still try to read one chapter in a rulebook per day even on days when I'll be attending both classes and work.
Just remembered that I also have a letter to write to the owner of a gaming store in Malaysia to attempt to get back in contact with some of my gaming friends on the other side of the world. I've hit the lake, and I have my CD doohickis working, so I'll probably read a few my spell descriptions after supper.
I finally found my yellow highlighter . . . so I can proceed to continue through spell descriptions tonight. My pink highlighter is used to personalize my RPG possessions. Guess I'll see what I can do going out of the house, then come back and read a chap or 2 more of spell descrips.
I think that when it comes to it, I will run an off-line ALTERNITY game regardless of whether I've read all the core rules or not. I just want to try GMing something different (and ALTERNITY will be easier to learn on the fly than TimeLords). I am, however, still going to read the cores rules for the 3 systems I mentioned and possible In Nomine as well all the way through, highlighting important stuff as usual.
Now that I know what game I'll run, I'll need a place we can meet on Sunday afternoons, and of course, the key element, players. So who's willing to give TSR's new Sci-Fi system a trial run?
If I can manage to clean my room, I'm going to get back to rule reading after I also do my homewokr and study for my accounting test.
Well, I got my stuf together and read more spell descriptions. Woo hoo.
Yeah, I'd heard WofTC bought out TSR..but if they axed their own role-playing dept., what happens to S.L.A.?
Dunno. I'm glad they're letting TSR do it's thing though.
dern. I kinda liked S.L.A., even if it was a damn merc game
