books aren't all the fantasy there is. This item will be devoted to all the
fantasy games that we play, (RPG's, Puzzle, Even Crosswords!) come, relax

I love a good magic-based game.. like Ars Magica.

#2 of 295 by anne on Fri May 19 16:24:21 1995:

Well... I like the rpg Shadowrun, it can be lots of fun... That and
TORG... I'll add more later.

#3 of 295 by morgayn on Fri May 19 17:20:42 1995:

I don't like actual RPG, I think because I've watched people devote their
lives to them, however, I suppose a once a week type thing could be kind of
fun... I've played D&D since I was six. I remember my first game. I got eaten
by this horde of killer bees...;) Which my brother thought was really funny
since Melissa means bee....yeah.....heh...;)

#4 of 295 by selena on Fri May 19 18:52:40 1995:

Once a week is actual RPG. Shadowrun's good.

#5 of 295 by anne on Fri May 19 22:03:48 1995:

I think I just like my character- a female that kicks butt! She's one
chickl that can defend herself!

#6 of 295 by jritz on Sat May 20 05:13:08 1995:

what the heck is shadowrun?

#7 of 295 by phreakus on Sat May 20 18:57:45 1995:

Put Cyberpunk 2020 & D&D in a blender & set to "puree".
the result is Shadowrun.
By the way, anne, my most powerful AD&D character is a female elven mage
(the DM threw level limits out the window for this one....)

#8 of 295 by anne on Sat May 20 20:34:28 1995:

Shadowrun is a futuristic game that takes place @2050 ce, magic has
reasserted itself into the world, quite strongly (althouhg many are sure
it never went away in the first place... ;) ). Anyway, magic is back,
so are elves, trolls, orcs, and fun stuff like that.

My character is a female former Yakuza ninja- physical adept. When I
first started running with her it was interesting cause all the other
players were male (the players were- there was one female character) and
my character was the best hand to hand fighter in the bunch! <anne grins>
T'was amusing.... :)

#9 of 295 by morgayn on Sun May 21 17:16:02 1995:

Sounds like fun, Anne....you'll have to tell me about it. :)
Would anyone else like to give a short background description of some of their
favorie RPG for those of us who are relatively illiterate? ;)

#10 of 295 by plork on Sun May 21 18:44:48 1995:

Level Limits stink. If you were an elf, would you appreciate some HUMAN saying
you can't get as good as them?

#11 of 295 by phreakus on Mon May 22 18:55:33 1995:

I would, but it would take hours... :)

#12 of 295 by phenix on Wed May 24 01:35:09 1995:

well, my standard Shadowrun character is a mage who, for some reason, likes
fire... mage, nice little guy, tends to use a katana and posion;) talks to
inanimate objects...... nice little guy, made quite abit

#13 of 295 by anne on Wed May 24 22:47:05 1995:

Greg- my character uses a katana too... although hers keeps getting taken
away and she is always buying new ones... <grin> She also has a monofilament
whip... my brother wasn't sure that was a good idea, but it works for my
character... <hee hee>

#14 of 295 by plork on Wed May 24 23:06:31 1995:

I like hee hee ing!!!

#15 of 295 by phenix on Wed May 24 23:51:27 1995:

just remember what happens when monofilament hits flesh;)
anyway, after stareing into the face of a few chuthulu minnions, he has
some.....uh, personality quirks. *chuckle* not to mention some lost essence. he
never seems to loose stuff, just his mind...... evil gm we have.... oh well.

#16 of 295 by phreakus on Thu May 25 17:32:57 1995:

I once had a AD&D character (wemic {lion-centaur}) have his tail stolen by a
kender...painful experience...

#17 of 295 by morgayn on Thu May 25 19:51:02 1995:

*eep* I did it again....sorry. :(
My character from D&D was a stinky one, my brother made it...which is probably
why I got killed by a pack of roving killer bees. *frown*
I am still sore about that...
*pout*

#18 of 295 by phenix on Thu May 25 20:28:48 1995:

*comfort lady blade*

#19 of 295 by morgayn on Fri May 26 13:19:59 1995:

#25 of 295 by phenix on Sat May 27 23:05:23 1995:

who needs magic when you have tac. nukes?

#26 of 295 by plork on Sun May 28 13:26:41 1995:

My NPC in an AD&D 2nd edition game was a 7/7 level fighter-thief, he had an
inteligent Vorpal sword (self-explanatory)

#27 of 295 by fireball on Mon May 29 00:09:09 1995:

ouch....
Then there's always grunt:
(for those whom I haven't told about him, I will attempt to)
My friend was playuing a Krynnish Minotaur named Brute...
He started out with a stregnth of 18 and an Int of 8
He found two decks of many things
among the things they gave him...They EACH gave him:
+3 strength and
-3 Int,
So we now have aminotaur running around with 24 strength and 2 intelligence...
there's more, but I won't go into it now...

#28 of 295 by phenix on Mon May 29 01:22:41 1995:

*chuckle*
i think i like rifts better....

#29 of 295 by selena on Mon May 29 05:36:23 1995:

Mage was stolen from Ars Magica!

#30 of 295 by lando on Mon May 29 20:46:33 1995:

Magic the gathering is a fun game if ya know what your doin.

#31 of 295 by phenix on Mon May 29 23:48:22 1995:

no, magic the gathering sucks
ars magica kicks majorly, and i thought the same thing selena

#32 of 295 by anne on Tue May 30 02:43:33 1995:

Magic: the Gathering is why I was up to 5:00 am yesterday! (I love that
game!!! ;) <anne grins> )

#33 of 295 by phreakus on Tue May 30 16:07:03 1995:

MTG is OK if you're not sick of it as I am.
Mage is Ars Magica, modern day.

#34 of 295 by phenix on Tue May 30 20:37:26 1995:

i have been playing mtg since about 2 weeks after it originally came out.......
needless to say i am slightly dissapointed in WOC's handling of the game.
however, i also like a homebrew highlander system that i play in.....(based on
first movie and the series)

#35 of 295 by selena on Wed May 31 04:19:11 1995:

        MTG is too silly.

#36 of 295 by phreakus on Wed May 31 16:07:09 1995:

I'm just *sick* of all these card games...Is the art of role-playing dead?

#37 of 295 by phenix on Wed May 31 21:47:39 1995:

not really, but you *used* to be able to play a good game of magic in under 20
min with a minimum of rules disputes. that was the appeal as to rpgs, they are
not dead, just growing like fungi in little clubs and cling ing to life in the
larger gameing clubs (at least in this area[ann arbor])

#38 of 295 by selena on Thu Jun 1 03:48:03 1995:

<Selena highly resents that!>
These stupid little card games don't have the power of even the
poorest role-playing game, when it comes to spurring your imagination!
Fungi! You call Vampire fungi? How about Shadowrun?

#39 of 295 by phreakus on Thu Jun 1 16:13:36 1995:

I *wholeheartedly* second that emotion!
