Co-dependency can be a real stumbling block to recovery, and it is even possible for addicts to struggle with it.

Absolutely.
Co-dependent relationships are often described as a dance-- both partners are interlocked, unable to break the cycle. Usually, one will have a clear addiction, while the other is emotionally dependent on the first; but it is not unusual for both to be addicts. How do I know? I have been there. And it hurts. It tears me up to have seen others I cared about suffer so much, while I was virtually powerless to stop it. And yet I chose to be blind to realize that I needed to seek healing myself.
The following is the best link I've seen so far for co-dependency in terms of defining what it is: http://www.naranoncalifornia.org/norcal/what_is_co.htm Very succinct and simple.
Here's something I found yesterday that really resonated: You know you are enabling when you care more about solving their problem than they do.
That's very fitting.
