Was Nietzsche really a Nihilist? I am not sure about that. I can see Sartre being one, but Nietzsche seems to have been of a mind that values in themselves were not bad as long as they are your own values that represent your own will to power and are not outdated values that you have accepted unthinkingly from tradition. I think what Nietzsche was referring to above was the notion that the Christian value on "truth" ultimately causes its downfall, since it requires ah honest analysis of the faith based on logic and not merely an automatic acceptance of it. Thus the virtue undermines the system that gave it force and validity. This is in keeping with his general dislike of "systems" that bind the man in and make ones slaves to it. On a more practical note, i have always been more of nihilist, but Nietzsche seems to feel that purpose can be created by the individual. Unfortunately, he didn't really tell us how.
well, as nost (oh ok all) of everything is transient, the only way real meaning can be attached to anything at all is if sonething, hopefully me, can continue to exist indefinetely. immortality is key here if you want anything to have any lasting significance. That is unless you subscribe to the notion, as i do, that numbers and other abstracts exist outside the mind. we'll talk later. love, Andy
Nihilism subscribes to the notion that nothing exists beyond its face value in the great scheme of things.this was the subject of many of Nietzsche's thoughts.Sartre could be fairly be considered an existentialist, altough it's fuzzy to me what the definition of the movement is, since they're so focused on declaring themselves antichrist.
Somebody said existentialism is less a philosophy than a bad mood.
andy, when you say numbers and other abstracts exist outside the mind, what exactly do you mean?
nihilism i used to believe that i am a true nihilist.... during my examinations also i will not study and just sleep ..... but that dose not affect my performance.... so i believe that nihilism is there in everybody... ---->>af1 luv u all
