Ok, short and simple: Scientology, cult or religion?
9 responses total.
neither.
Isn't "cult" just a sub-type of religion, often used by people who consider themselves religious in reference to the religions of others?
It's a cult. My mother somehow got on their mailing list (snail mail) and she gets shit in the mail from them almost every week.
Sounds like Billy Graham.
www.xenu.net Go there. ;-)
http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=cult Every religion is a cult. It's just that some religions which claim a monopoly on truth deny their status as cult. As for Scientology: It's a siphon of wallets, carefully constructed along psychological principles, and meticulously maintained. They've got some of the best and most streamlined processes for communication and persuasion.
Aren't all religions cults?
Technically yes, but in the last fifty years, the word cult has taken on a number of negative connotations. It is those negative aspects most people are referring to when they call something a cult.
there's also the anthony cult, where people like you worship people like me. when i tell you there's an asteroid coming, you all shout "how high?" things like that.
