Isn't "cult" just a sub-type of religion, often used by people who
consider themselves religious in reference to the religions of others?

It's a cult. My mother somehow got on their mailing list (snail mail)
and she gets shit in the mail from them almost every week.

Every religion is a cult. It's just that some religions which claim a
monopoly on truth deny their status as cult.

As for Scientology: It's a siphon of wallets, carefully constructed
along psychological principles, and meticulously maintained. They've
got some of the best and most streamlined processes for communication
and persuasion.

Aren't all religions cults?

#8 of 9 by void on Fri May 24 23:24:53 2002:

Technically yes, but in the last fifty years, the word cult has
taken on a number of negative connotations. It is those negative
aspects most people are referring to when they call something a cult.

when i tell you there's an asteroid coming, you all shout "how high?"

things like that.
