Don't let me scare you off. I'm not a wanna-be, I'm just kinda making a
poll to see if there are enough people out there to start our own
Conferance for discussion.

                                        Thanks for your support.

I'd hang out there, but I don't know enough to be of use...
not a practitioner, just an interested observer.

#3 of 17 by dang on Wed Nov 23 19:12:36 1994:

I don't know anything about them, but I to am interested. I'd hang out
there too.

(I have a shirt with the title of this item on it.)

I wouldn't even know where to begin a discussion, but I would
like to learn more about Native American culture and spirituality.
A good friend of mine in high school was Ojibway and only rarely
mentioned her culture/traditions. Do people speak more freely
now than they did 20 years ago?

#5 of 17 by peacefrg on Thu Nov 24 03:43:01 1994:

Depends on the person. I've never had any resistance
talking to any pureblood natives. I also have that shirt.
Let's get a discussion going on conf - Synthesis.
Hope to see you there. I was gong to start a seperate
conferance but everybody said that it would clash
with synthesis. So I decided to just talk to people there.

Well, i'm new here and thought this would be a good place to start.
I'de be interested in a Native American thing i'm in Arizona right
now so i'm kind of in a good place of the country for it it too. I
may be taking a class in this area this winter so count me in too.

Since we've got a thread going, let me ask a question. What is
the one part of your tradition/culture that non-Native Americans
have the most trouble understanding?

#8 of 17 by peacefrg on Mon Nov 28 00:30:21 1994:

I'm not Native American in race, just faith. I think the one
That most people don't understand is why anybody would
want to be totally passive and non-violent. All through school
I got ridiculed by Jocks because I was a pacifist.
It's a hard path to follow.

Must be......I could never do it.... No I don't think I ever could.....

#10 of 17 by peacefrg on Fri Dec 2 01:09:03 1994:

It's not that bad when you put your mind to it.

#11 of 17 by nephi on Sat Dec 3 10:21:15 1994:

I'm a pacifist as well... just too empathetic to ever want to hurt
anyone.

#12 of 17 by peacefrg on Thu Dec 8 16:14:17 1994:

Yeah

#13 of 17 by flem on Sun Dec 11 00:38:11 1994:

I'm not. Some things are just worth fighting for, to me.

#14 of 17 by nephi on Wed Dec 14 12:04:53 1994:

What things are so important to you that you are willing to hurt others
for them? (Seriously. This is no attack.)

#15 of 17 by flem on Sun Dec 18 17:00:28 1994:

If others were trying to hurt something tat
(er, that) I love dearly, then I would be willing to hurt them.
For instance, my friends, my family, my trumpet, me...
I don't know If there is a situation in which I would use offensive
force. I'll tell you if I get into one.

#16 of 17 by carson on Mon Jan 23 12:26:31 1995:

I think I would use offensive force after having used defensive
force, simply because that is the natural progression in my
mind. This is one of the reasons I try to avoid using physical
force.

#17 of 17 by orinoco on Wed Mar 6 03:01:44 1996:

Yes, but there is a difference between using offensive force *rarely* and not
using it at all.
